Bought and installed this model about 6 months ago. It was $171 at that time. It does an acceptable job, but I can't say I'm a fan (no pun intended). It's definitely not worth whatever they're claiming is full retail. The touch pads for the light and fan are irritating (not sensitive enough, so you have to touch them just right). The LED lights are not replaceable, so if anything goes wrong, you're out of luck. Have to cycle through all the fan speeds to get to the one you want/turn it off, and the fans pause between each tap of the touchpad.

Bottom line: It's not bad enough that I wanted to go through the hassle of uninstalling, repackaging, and returning it, but I wouldn't buy it again. YMMV.

if you're Asian, don't bother with this. You need 700 CFM

It's only 375 CFM. I would say this is only for the casual cook with an electric range.

I think it is about heating /cooling not the pressure. if you push more air out your HVAC should compensate the temperature difference without stress
Question also becomes, do you have any exhaust flues in your house (furnace, dryer, fireplace, etc) because past 300cfm you could start sucking in with more pressure than the flue can safely vent and you're then basically keeping all that tasty carbon monoxide for yourself (until it makes it out your vent hood but that could take too long)

any recs? Im looking to replace mine, the old one that come with the house barely works and we set off the smoke alarm every once in a while even if we remember to open the windows. Need to bring in a fan to really move the air to keep it from going off.
Fotile, 100%. Have had one (900cfm) for 3 years. It's a beast.

I dont think 375 CFM would be enough. Go at least 500 CFM but it's going to be running near max settings.

I had a microwave and vent in one. Vent was almost useless. I decided to get a standalone hood vent and microwave. It was worth it! Whole house doesnt smell anymore when cooking. Anyone cooking a lot and have space for a separate microwave should switch imo. Oh also a hood vent is easier to clean. Gets surprisingly greasy

"Make up air" refers to fresh air brought in from the outside to make up for the smoky air blown out from the vent hood.

If you don't have a source of make up air and have a high CFM vent, your house will suck air in through *somewhere*, and that somewhere will be the exhaust flue of your gas water heater or furnace chimney, etc.

That means you're sucking burner fumes into the house, unless your water and heating are electric.
Considering it's always the path of least resistance, you're more likely to be sucking air in through gaps in your weatherstrip, bathroom vent fans, and dryer vent exhaust before it starts pulling from properly installed flues.

Key word being properly installed.

Don't even have a duct. This seems adequate for me. Just hesitate about the extra cost of carbon (charcoal) filters.

Been going down the range hood rabbit hole lately, and most recently the concept of make up air. Have read a few accounts of high CFM hoods in well built/insulated homes, with little-to-no air infiltration, breaking the p-trap seal and sucking up sewer gas. That said, the take away seems to be knowing your home and local environment. Opening a window probably isn't a great idea for someone in northern WI in winter, or Phoenix in the middle of summer.

Otherwise, I was considering Braun but their fans tend to be loud. Considering Z-Line ad an affordable option since they tend to be quieter and have a 3 year limited warranty (vs the 1-2 years with most other manufacturers).

Been a few months and still looking for a good option. The whole hood market is crazy, with all brands (include no name Asian brands on Amazon) claiming crazy "cfm" numbers from a $300 hood all the way to a $2000 ones. And if you look at the marketing material you find it is a 650 cfm "equivalent".

How is equivalent defined? No idea, for all i know it's just some marketing term. It's a fan in a box and brands claim they'd achieve an insane increase of noise to power ratio over their competitors?

Frankly, I feel like it's a stupid market. I'm having trouble understanding how a sheet metal box with a basic motor and squirrel cage can cost more than a feature rich name brand microwave with fan (albeit, not as effective).

I will say, though, that I went to Lowes and they had a z-line and a comparable braun on display and I felt like the overall build quality was better on the z-line.

Don't get me started with the microwave hoods....

My opening is a 36" instead of a 30". Guess how much they are selling the filler kits on the side of the microwave so it goes in place?

$400 for 2 pieces of sheet metal.

Best I've seen in terms of power and design without using filters.

pacific ranges and sakura are pretty common in Chinese households. Just note, you're going to be spending at least $600 for a good one but it's worth the investment if you do high heat cooking. There are some other brands out there but I'd go with Sakura or Pacific Ranges.

the cheaper ones aren't going to do anything for high heat cooking.
thanks I think i'm going to get the pacific sc88 30".

I have a Pacair range hood for over 10 years. It's rated nearly 1000 CFM. I don't see the point of having a weak one because it's not actively sucking air. You need something with enough power that can move a piece of paper. Also, the self cleaning is useless. You need to be able to take apart the fan and wash it in a dishwasher. If the unit is very effective then it's going to accumulate grease too difficult for any self cleaning mechanisms. Power and maintenance, that's what you want out of a range vent.
