Can someone explain how this works, can I just activate with AT&T and then cancel the service on the next billing cycle.

Is there a catch to it?

Any slickdealers mind giving me a guide on how to take advantage of this in the cheapest way possible. I have my own carrier via tello and I just want this phone to be able to use with my service.

During the old Z fold deals you could cancel within 3 days and the activation fee would be waived by AT&T so that is what I'm trying to figure out if we can still do that, basically someone needs to buy the phone today and try canceling the service and see what AT&T says about it and confirm that the phone is actually unlocked, (try putting a different sim card into it)

The $649 price only applies if you are adding a new line of service. You will need to set up an appointment at the Bestbuy store to do so. Can't do this online. And it will involve a credit check from ATT. If you are okay with all these, continue reading. Get the number of phones you need during your appointment and get equal number of ATT lines. One line costs $65/month with auto-pay and $70 without. If you have 3 lines, the price comes down to $45 each or $135 in total. There's also a $35 activation charge on each line. After getting your phones, open and load them with the ATT sims for the first 24 hours. Then call ATT and cancel the lines you don't need. If you cancel within 3 days, you won't be charged anything. Means you have an unlocked S23 Ultra in hand for $649 + taxes. I think this is a GREAT DEAL if you don't have a trade-in device.

Note: This is what the Bestbuy associate told me and I did. Upon calling ATT today, they said I won't be charged for the cancelled line. If I get a bill, I'll update it here.

Thanks for the report beige, and it was letting me do the order online if I import my phone number. so everyone just take note of that, you can do the orders online and pickup in store.

I might go buy one today and go pick it up or ship to home. thanks for the report!

keep me posted how the process goes. I was looking to upgrade from iphone 13 128gb to S23 Ultra . Does it make sense to invest 280 to get an upgrade

Personally I would upgrade yes, the S23U has a lot more features and better camera system, its up to you tho, that price seems like a good price too, but this deal for 650 is really the best price possible
