I used to love these deals back in the PS3/Xbox 360 heydays of their end cycles. Now you are hard pressed to find 4 games in these categories in one physical location to make this deal work. Online option kills the deal with their $79 minimum for free shipping and no guarantee of original cases being sent. Not to mention their online inventory not matching the actual store inventory make this deal an effort in futility.

People will either love me or hate me for this, but here's the way I combat those problems. Last time I took advantage of this promotion, I ordered three copies each of the games I wanted. This earned me free shipping, and it also gave me pretty decent odds of getting original game cases. They had to ship from multiple locations to fulfill my order. Then I just cherry-picked the ones that were in the best condition and returned the extras to my local shop. When the store employee asked me why I was returning them, I just said I accidentally ordered three of each somehow. No other questions were asked, and the balance was returned to my Amex. Pretty painless and worth the effort if you are particular about keeping your collection in original cases, as I am. And I feel no shame for working GameStop's system. I'm not a hater, but they play enough games with promos and inventory and rolling price changes that I feel zero guilt for using their rules to my advantage when I can.

It's going to be near impossible to find a store that carries exactly what you want - it's more of a buy 2 - find 2 filler deal for sure.

I went through all 57 pages of the ($5) deal just because I wanted to see if I even twitched a little bit and I mustered up the love for 2 DS games Id be happy to have in my collection (Megaman Star Force and Game And Watch Club Nintendo Exclusive) and they weren't even in stock.

I just kept going and going and it just got worse and worse. The first 20 pages at least have good games for consoles someone probably has but after that it's mostly DS and 360 titles. After 40 pages its all dogwater tier games, nothing even worth looking at. I dont think this is a real deal, I think it's just a system calculation these games are basically worthless after "X" amount of time so time to put them up in the death bin.

Im a huge proponent of Physical games, I'll scream this for the rest of my life. However when I see all the trash fire games that GameStop are trying to dump on someone else Im kinda glad dogwater tier games nowadays only take up space on digital stores mostly, little less pollution for their garbage.

Im also gonna blame Microsoft for not making their XBONE consoles not backwards compatible. I cant even pretend to imagine ever owning a 360 at the rate those things would die. If they even bothered to actually make the XBONE read discs from the 360 then maybe people would still try to keep some of their older games rather than having their 360 die and they sell their games.

The deal they had earlier this year was far better and I bought a total of $60 worth of games exactly and got a selection of wonderful games AND only one game had the shit case.

The deal is better in store where you can see the condition and may find stuff that didn't show up due to their messed up inventory system. I found eight games between three stores that are relatively close to me.

What always drives me crazy trying to claim these deals is that GameStop's website won't let you stack promo codes (and they treat EVERYTHING as a promo code). They give away $5 reward codes like candy, but you can't use two on the same order. You also can't use a $10 promo code on an order with a $9.99 subtotal, which is infuriating during these sales.

With that said, if you have a GameStop Pro account and get a $5 off reward each month, this is still a great way to use it and get 4 classic games from a local store without paying for shipping. You won't find all your first choices in the same location, but you can usually find 1 or 2 great classic games and several reasonably good ones.

It also depends on the system you have. There are lots of good PS4 games at this price point that will work on PS5, but only if you have the model with a disk reader (which most people probably didn't spend extra for).
"which most people probably didn't spend extra for"

How did you come up with this assumption.

Fun fact, games that were eligible for even 4/$10 aren't even eligible for either tier now. They've jacked up prices on some games 200-300%. They also didn't do a 4/$40 this time around.

I've gotten Cyperpunk 2077 for the 4/10 before too and I'm pretty sure they've inflated that price back up (even before the DLC).

Agreed. I did this before w/ Skyward Sword HD, hoping to get a good copy. Bought 3x, none were in the original case. When doing the return for all 3, the guy at the local GameStop actually went and found a used copy that had the case, and gave me it. The company may have gone downhill, but the local store(s) around me always seem to have cool people working there that legit just want people to enjoy gaming.

Just adding that this isn't even worth checking anymore. Even the old golf games are sold out for shipping. And when sports games are unavailable, you know the selection is bleak.

My closest stores manager proceeded to tell me that I "couldn't have" the copy of Modern Warfare with the regular case because he "didn't want to have to make one of those generic cases up". He's lucky they stopped the receipt surveys and that I didn't want to be on hold forever to customer service to report his bs. He's likely getting a preorder cancelation sooner than later, since that's the only way to send a message to rude managers that's left.

Ah, that's really annoying. Guess it depends on location - I had to use up the $5 for this month, so I paired it w/ the 4/$20 deal. While chatting the guy up for some suggestions, he let me know that they had Dark Souls II - Black Armor Edition steelbook in perfect shape and complete, and priced as a regular copy so I could use the 4/$20 and get it. Cool stuff like that is what I've typically found around here.

You can easily find some OUTSTANDING $9.99 games for XB1 and PS4. XBX and PS5 not so much, and the $4.99 games are hard to find for any system. This can really be a great deal if you look around.

That being said, - in stores stock is WAY more limited (obviously) which makes it hard to find a bunch of good games...and online - $79 freaking threshold for free shipping is STUPID.

Is this deal expired? I don't see the discount applying on cart even with 4 qualifying games.
