Be aware that Aqueon tanks have terrible quality issues, specifically with the silicone seams at the edges. I think it's safe to use their ten gallon tanks - pressure is relatively low, and it's just ten gallons on the floor. But I've had several of their larger tanks fail and leak. Others report catastrophic failures, not just slow leaks. And inspecting some new Aqueon tanks, I've found voids, gaps, even one where the silicone just was missing alone the last few edges of one edge.

I love the price on their small tanks but stay away from anything larger than ten gallons. Maybe they've addressed the problem since, but I saw this from ~2021 up to a tank in store just a few months ago. EDIT: Or don't stay away, but inspect them closely in the parking lot.

Be aware that Aqueon tanks have terrible quality issues, specifically with the silicone seams at the edges. i have had 3 aqueon tanks under 20 gallons and have not bad problems. unsure about bigger sizes

I think they use good materials, inasmuch as they're cheap tanks. But there was a while when some tanks had the sealant misapplied, and it got past whatever quality control they have. I think they can be good again if they fix or have fixed their production issues. Good news - I think - is that the issue is usually visible. If the silicon is interrupted, there's a gap, or it doesn't reach the corners. Or if you look through the glass and a section does not adhere - then reject the tank. Otherwise it should be fine. Basically do the QA that the company should have done.

I still have some Aqueon tanks. One's half-full (for frogs) and small. Another is holding a snake, very little weight in there and no water to leak. And the third is a ten gallon I use while cleaning other tanks. They're great for the money, imo - but inspect the seals before use.

I was wondering why they don't use plexiglass or similar that are unbreakable and shatterproof, while still maintaining clear translucent view?

Paid $10 for this in December. Using for hermit crabs... no issues, but I have not put any water in it.

Acrylic tanks (plexiglass) do exist and have been available for decades, but they're much more expensive than glass. Those cheaper little plastic polyethylene beta tanks are possible because they're usually only 5 gal or smaller.

I've been running almost exclusively Aqueon tanks outside of a couple rimless nanos for years now and haven't had any issues. I've had a 75 up for 6+ years, a shrimp rack with 2x2.5 gallon, a 5.5, a 20 long and a standard 10 thats been going for 3 years. Before I found out about the $1/gallon sale which was replaced with the 50% off sale I bought all my tanks used and the only tank i've ever had leak was a 7 gallon rimless that I moved from my parents house to my house and I chalk that up as my fault for not doing it the right way, it was heavily planted and had a lot of shrimp and a few fish so I didn't want to remove all the water while moving it.

My point is that maybe Aqueon does have a higher failure rate but if you do your standard leak test and it's not leaking from the start I find it hard to believe that it wasn't user error that lead to any leaks/cracks. I do believe that they're made cheaper than other tanks but most cases of leaks are probably from people not leveling out their tanks putting more pressure on possibly already weak seals.
