is this a joke? no one is using cds anymore
F*ck yeah we are. Some, like myself have thousands of CD's, tapes, and vinyl. The players wear out sometimes (although mine are going on 35+ years). Denon makes decent stuff and it seems like a decent transport, although not a great discount.

Not all audio setups are hooked up to home theaters. And not all dvd/BR players can do gapless CD playback.

How does this one compare to the Yammy that was on sale a little while ago?

Similar. Yamaha was a better value at its price since it has USB front panel playback, and a 2 year warranty.

AL32 Processing smooths out the waveform and restores any information lost during digital recording by utilizing complex data interpolation algorithms, which exist before and after large quantities of data become recorded.
Pure rubbish. You can't "find" information that isn't there. But yeah, a complex enough algorithm can make an educated guess as to what detail could be added. Not so different from HDTV upscaling of a lower res signal

I lost my CD collection a few years ago. Now, I am trying to build it back up. CDs are still a thing. I listen using my DVD player too but I am not audiophile that would need a "transport".

I use a 4k Bluray as a CD player nowadays. Nothing against this particular product, but its single function.....

I recommend CDs unless you have nostalgic memories to vinyl! CDs are cheaper more music is available on them and they are the better physical audio format if you care about that.

I don't understand the reason for going with CDs if you're getting into it as a hobby. Vinyl, I get because there's an effect that can't be replicated by other formats which some people do like. The reason for getting a CD player now is only to be able to playback your existing collection that you don't want to rip for whatever reason. However, if you don't have an existing collection and if you don't have thing for vinyl records then I would recommend to go digital. If you can't find your music on digital format then buy the CD but rip to mp3 or lossless and download it to your cellphone.

Because you still get the 'physical object' hit with CDs. You have to go to a shelf, pick something out, and put it in the player. You still get the artwork, lyrics, liner notes, etc. in the booklet. You're not subject to record companies or artists pulling their music off a streaming service, and there's still a lot of music that's just not available on streaming. Add in that CDs, when compared to vinyl, are much more damage resistant and less prone to imperfections.

I've got too much vinyl, and I've got too many CDs, but they both have their strengths for the budding audiophile.

The people sh!tt!ing on this deal are the same people who defend buying vinyl @ $20 a pop because it's a "deal."
