FYI, if you are looking at the "FineWoven" cases, they are HORRIBLE and NOT a good replacement for the leather cases. I've used the Apple leather cases for years but the new FineWoven is the worst Apple product I've used - after just a few days it's already permanently dirty, has a ring of little metal particles embedded in the shape of the magsafe ring, and I've dropped my phone more in a weekend than I had in the past year because it's so slippery.

The FineWoven cases are so bad that Apple has removed the review feature from the Apple Store site, and Amazon is limiting new reviews because the reviews are so negative.

Yeah, it's nuts they will stop their leather cases, I've been using those on every gen since 11 🤨

Picked up the Andar Aspen case since Apple made the bonehead move of dropping leather from their lineup. The quality is so much nicer than the 13 Pro Apple leather case I was using for the last 2 years. Full coverage, but they made the action button a cutout and not a metal button so that part is a bummer.

The leather cases for the newer phones with a rectangular/squared edge designs are really bad. I bought one for my 12 mini and was nothing like the leather case for my iPhone 7.

Leather does not patina well and the edges darken to the point that they are noticeably different from the rest of the case. Gives it a dirty look rather than "patina." Also, the leather seems to be of much lower quality. Thinner and starts to feel like sandpaper or material "pilling" (like on a cheap hoodie) after time. The 7 case never had this issue and leather felt incredible as time went on.

I think this is why Apple discontinued the leather case - they just can't source the material and provide quality assurance on it anymore. It's an awful case and $15 (versus the $50 or $60 retail) is much closer to its "true value" - if you didn't know it was from Apple you'd be completely convinced it was a knockoff.

TLDR;

These new leather cases are really, really bad and are nothing like cases from previous generations. There is a very good reason why Apple is discontinuing leather cases.

Agreed, I got one a year or 2 ago and it was terrible. It was peeling everywhere and looked black and dirty. I ended up replacing with a cheap Spigen case and have been happy since.

I went with a bullstrap leather case… after coupon it was only $12 more than the terrible fine woven case
