512GB on a POS product like this makes as much sense as buying a full size sedan powered with a riding lawn mower engine.

Are there any flash drives with heatsinks? it sounds like most get hot and fail due to getting hot relatively quickly...

Reads are slow and writes are even slower. It's a nice small drive though.

You don't want this. I agree with the others.

'old' computer guy here. beware of San Disk. I see people talk good about them. I don't know why. Their marketing team seem to be masters at lying about specs. There CFO must be good at sourcing cheap crappy memory chips.

I've seen a handful of san disk memory chips worth having, and they were just competitive with some good brands.

Most san disk memory I've gotten over the last 50 years was crap.

Since then I've looked deeply in to a few chips looking for truth. Once agaion, thos chips were crap and the description made them look good to me initiallly.

Now I won't buy san disk unless its a price mistake, and still feels dicy.

Something anyone buying a USB stick should know..

USB 3.1 gen 1
speed: 5G/s
ports: USB A

*USB 3.1 gen 2
speed: 10G/s
ports: USB C only

*USB 3.2. gen 1
speed: 10G/s
ports: USB C, USB A, micro USB

*note: USB 3.1 gen 1 and USB 3.2 gen 2 are the exact same, just added USB A, and Micro USB

USB 3.2 gen 2
speed: 10G/s
ports: USB C only

......................................................................................

Look at what ports you have on your computer and get a USB stick for that speed. There are many fast ports on computers now, so you shouldn't be buying super slow usb sticks if you have fast ports.

The faster usb sticks don't cost much.

How many USB drives can actually take advantage of those port speeds for more than a few seconds for writing?
There may be some use cases for faster reads, e.g OS install. But slow writing speed is still the actual limit in most cases

This drive gets super hot and has a thin plastic case prone to cracking.

I agree with the above comments; however, I have found one good use for these large-but-cheap drives: music drives.
I travel often and many rental cars either do not support Apple CarPlay, or it's buggy as all heck. So it's an easy way to at least always have music.
