I have these sets in both metric and normal. They're crap. The cheap T handles loose grip on the tool without much force and just spin. A ball tip is also a nice thing to have. Pass on these unless you're just assembling Ikea furniture.

Harbor Freight ones are cheaper than this at regular price... and since this isn't a power tool or something heavy duty, I think it would be fine to buy from there...

If it is in your budget, consider a higher quality set with a ball tip.

I bought a cheap pair of snap ring pliers once to remove one snap ring and they broke immediately. I returned them and jumped for the Channel-Lock brand and they worked great. I'm sure Knipex is better but the Channel-Lock brand has worked well for me so far. Either way, don't buy these cheap ones. Or if you do, be sure to wear a face mask...

That being said, it's an invaluable little tool to have around for pushing things apart. Along with "pin pliers" with flush-ground teeth at their ends for grabbing something with an absolute minimum of available surface area. There are like a handful of tools that you very rarely use and so never find at the big box stores, but when you do they're worth their weight in gold.

I have the HF and a similar set from Irwin for a little more (~12 on amazon currently). The Irwin's are way better. The HF set the removable heads fall off way too easy. I agree the best choice is a perm fixed head but for me the Irwin's were more than adequate as this is something I use rarely.

I have the harbor freight snap ring pliers (only used once) and they are garbage. They bend very easily on the smallest snap rings. They are barely usable.

These are pretty terrible, but at $7 they're good enough for rare use. If you're going to use snap rings often, consider a decent set (e.g. Knipex).

I'm not arguing with your advice, but I think you forgot a zero. My Knipex snap ring set was closer to $200. https://www.zoro.com/knipex-preci...904857301/

The difference between that set and the little swappable one in this deal is night and day, and for my purposes was well worth it. Clearly not everyone needs Knipex quality, but at the very least get some real snap ring pliers, not the dangerous and frustrating cheap sheet metal swappable head ones...
Sure, if you get ALL the various sizes it would be $200. After fighting with the HF and another cheap brand, when I had a project that had more than one snap ring, I bought two Knipex pliers, one for internal and one for external. It was about $40 on Amazon (not a slick deal, just regular price). It really does help to have a really good tool. If you need to be able to do all sizes, it will be expensive.

I almost went crazy trying to change snap rings for LM8UU bearings on a 3D printer with a similar set of snap ring pliers. They always sheared off to the side instead of compressing the clips, the construction is just too flimsy. I now have four real snap ring pliers.

As others have mentioned, these are identical to the harbor freight ones, currently on sale for $2.

I got this from Menards for much cheaper and I still felt ripped off. Nothing worse than a cheap snap ring tool. I since got the nice Chanel lock one and wow worth every dollar
