I purchased 3 of these since March….my thoughts: (1) they work amazing as far as filtering smells, scents, and dust, (2) all 3 of my units stopped working 2 weeks ago with a known fan error (2 lights blink and the fan does not turn on). I called Winix, and again it's a known issue and all 3 are getting replaced under their warranty. I received tracking numbers within 2 days of filing the warranty claim for 3 replacement units. Would I buy again? Yes. The units work great when operating and Winix stands by their warranty.

If you have pets they now have Filter U that can be use to add another stage of filtering:

Wow was about to fire away an order but a 100% refurb failure is pretty scary for something that was supposedly repaired & re-evaluated. I'm just hoping its not a inherent design flaw as I can't afford having it die after 1 year and be looking again for another 60-100$
From the warranty discussion did it seem to you as if they knew what the issue was and can actually resolve it or just a we know and will ship replacements (with possibly the same issue happening). I have a idylis unit from a lowes deal that has been going strong for 5 years or more but no plasmawave or similar cleaning tech.
Sounds like the inkjet printer business model where consumables will cost more than the unit after two replacements.
Yes. Having said that, my other air filters are IQAir filters, and a set of filters (pre, charcoal, and HEPA) are combined $600, so $60 (or $45 - $50 on sale) isn't too bad. Of course, the IQAir filters do move A LOT more air than Winix 545.

Yeah... I personally would stay away from the refurbs. The new ones (2) from Costco have not failed me, yet. The refurb one that I bought started having the fan noise issue. I was just out of the warranty period (1 year), so I just took it apart and lubed whatever I could. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing, but the noise is down. Also, it's in the basement work out room now, so no one cares if it's a little louder.
For anyone running into increased noise over the life of your winix air purifier, there are many videos on youtube of individuals identifying causes and resolving the issue. If you have a unit out side of warranty, consider giving that a look over.

I was definitely surprised when all 3 units failed within days of each other. All have the 2 blinking light error and the fan won't turn on. When I called Winix they were very much aware of the issue and the lady said it was a known fan problem and immediately authorized replacement of all 3 fans after I quickly submitted a warranty request form. I received all 3 replacement fans 2 days ago. All replaced with refurbs. I'll probably disassemble the non functioning fans and try to find a replacement fan for them. But to answer your question, yes, they were aware of the issue, but immediately authorized replacement fans.
