If that Alexandra scene appeared in an otherwise dog shit show, it would STILL be the greatest scene ever.
Conversely, if that scene never existed, True Detective season 1 would STILL be the greatest 8 hours of television ever.
The fact that they both exist in the same series is breathtaking.
So basically DVD quality.

The second season definitely is not half as good. I'm not sure if it's downright bad, but I can tell you that on the heels of season 1, it was difficult to find motivation to actually finish season 2.
The third season is worth watching, even if it isn't on the same level as season 1. They did a much better job identifying what it was about season 1 that made it special, and tried their best to emulate it. Mostly successfully.
I have high hopes for season 4. The trailers look like they have the tone and feel down pretty well.
