My family prefers side by side vs french door. My parents can't bend over due to back/knee in order to take things out of the freezer in a French door. Also, it's hard to pull things out of the bottom of the freezer bucket, have to move everything on top first. It's hard to tell what's down there in the books and crannies of the freezer bucket. Side by side, there's many shelves so can stay more organized and can peek all the way to the back most of the time.

For us... The freezer section is more convenient to find things stacked up shelf by shelf.

Bought for $1300 in April 2022. Would recommend as as a no frills reliable fridge. We like side-by-side over French door because you don't have to bend over and hunt for stuff. More room and access for bigger frozen items.

Q: why would anyone get a side by side over a French door? Just seems inconvenient.
I prefer side by side. While the French door fridge part on top is obviously superior, you pay a price by having a joke of a freezer. First, you have to bend down for anything. Second, everything is in a pile. You can't see everything you have. You need to start digging. I never liked that.

If you mostly don't use your freezer, then and only then does a French door make sense.

We have a very similar Whirlpool fridge now (previous version). I hate it and can't wait for it to finally die. The ice maker has broken three times. The water dispenser has broken twice. The ice dispenser paddle does not work right and it will just randomly spit out ice all over the floor. Things in the back of the fridge freeze over. Did I mention how much I hate this fridge. I prefer a side-by-side and am planning on getting a GE the next time it goes on sale. I don't trust LG and definitely don't trust Samsung.
That's why I got this model without the ice/water. Paid the same. I don't need that much ice and all those mechanisms take half your freezer space. The good space on top. Might as well get a French door.

Icemakers in doors in french door refrigerators have a higher failure rate than side by side. Samsungs suck, I've had 2 french doors and both died. Now with GE side by side. Cost of filter (chipped) is very high.

No way. Side by side is still the best setup overall. French door makes the freezer nearly useless with its piled deep setup.

Got this same or similar model in 2019 and had zero issues. I recently moved and really miss how spacious this one is as well as how well the water and ice dispenser worked (and helpful to have discrete ones instead of a combined one). The ice this makes is also much better in size and consistency than my current one… thinking about replacing it at this price. The only slight issue is if you pack it too tight in the back you can get inconsistent cooling and cause some things to freeze in the fridge. Would definitely recommend it though.

I also have this fridge and use Kenmore branded filters that cost 1/5th the price with no issue.

Without the ice maker, or ability to add it in the purchase.

"Item ships in plain package." Lol

Yeah, at this price I'd be up for a "subscribe and save" for delivery and installation every 4 years—equal to the expected lifetime of most modern refrigerators, sadly enough.

Plus that would help us fill up all those low spots in our landfills.

I have this fridge for 2 years now without any issues.
At one point the freezer door gasket was leaking air on the top right corner. After a while, I figured I had some items preventing the door to close completely. After some clean up, it's ok now.
