My family prefers side by side vs french door. My parents can't bend over due to back/knee in order to take things out of the freezer in a French door. Also, it's hard to pull things out of the bottom of the freezer bucket, have to move everything on top first. It's hard to tell what's down there in the books and crannies of the freezer bucket. Side by side, there's many shelves so can stay more organized and can peek all the way to the back most of the time.
For us... The freezer section is more convenient to find things stacked up shelf by shelf.
Bought for $1300 in April 2022. Would recommend as as a no frills reliable fridge. We like side-by-side over French door because you don't have to bend over and hunt for stuff. More room and access for bigger frozen items.

Home Depot sells this for $1500.
Could someone help me out with the correct measurement of the height of this fridge? The listing shows 71.25 inches height (i only have room for 70") but the pic costco provides says is 69" height. Which would be correct? See attached pic. Thanks in advance!

Assuming Costco is listing the correct model number, Googling the specific model number (WRS588FIHZ) will lead you to many web sites including one directly from Whirlpool [whirlpool.com]. Scrolling to the bottom of the Whirlpool product page and clicking specifications indicates that the height is 68 7/8 inches. The product page at Home Depot and Best Buy seem to corroborate this as well so it would seem that you should be able to trust the Costco pic.

Side note. The water filters in all fridges are garbage. Get yourself an RO system and drink water that is actually filtered.
That way your coffee is guaranteed to taste like bird piss.

I just measured ours and the back of it is 68.5". With the hinges tt's still just under 69". We had to be careful, because our cabinet is exactly 69" and many of the models that we were interested in just wouldn't fit or were too close for comfort.
The only problem so far it that this thing is really noisy much of the time and we can hear it from our couch about ten feet away. It sounds like were sitting in a doctor's waiting room and you can hear all of the machines humming. My wife and I have only had it for a week and are seriously thinking about returning it. Uh oh, it must have sensed me talking about it, because it just got much louder. So....it may be haunted too.

For some reason, french doors seem to break more🤷 .
Our whirlpool french door went out in month 20. Had two companies comes out look at to repairing. Both said side by side are more reliable than french door models. Called Whirlpool, $250 to come out to give repair estimate. The computer board to replace the unit is 3/4 of price of a new refridgerator. Whirlpool use to be one of my go to brands. The whirlpool model had samsung parts that made us decide to junk it versus repair. The most important thing to look for is how much refrigerant is in the unit. Good luck!!

I will never buy an appliance from Costco ever again. They use awful local faceless delivery companies who only exist for these contracts with big warehouses and provide zero customer service and do not care about delivery dates. After literal weeks of not receiving my fridge last year, I cancelled the order and bought from Lowe's for nearly the same price. The next day an actual Lowe's truck showed up for a perfect delivery.
I think each person has their own experiences. I had two Costco purchases in two different states and both deliveries were perfect! I would intentionally buy Costco for the quality of the delivery as both were concerned with their survey/rating. One group didn't level the appliance perfectly but simple enough to do on my own.

Don't buy a Samsung fridge. I had one that had to be replaced, the first one was so bad. With the 2nd I had numerous problems with the icemaker breaking, refrigerator freezing contents, and leaks in the freezer. I would never buy another Samsung. The design and features are amazing, but the reliability is not worth the investment.

I have LG washer/dryer set, about 10 years old, and it is still running perfectly. I am actually washing a load of clothes right now!

We have this fridge, we hate it. Stuff always feeezes up in the fridge and it's been looked at. Tech looked at it when our water dispenser went out at 1 year old and he said nothing is wrong.
How long did you own it before that happened?

Someone asked me a question about this fridge (private message) because I said in another post I was going to buy it 5 months ago. I looked and saw this post, so thought I'd share some comments on life with this fridge after 5 months:
  • It's noisy. The compressor seems to run nearly all the time. Check the Whirlpool website and they say "this is normal" and designed to do so, to ensure low energy use. I can't hear it when the TV or music is playing, but if I'm trying to read in the living room I can hear the fridge grinding away in the kitchen. A low droning noise. I would not have bought this fridge if I had known about this noise issue.
  • The hinges at the bottom of the fridge, for the doors, are exposed and look very ugly. I know this isn't an art piece, but for $1200 I don't want the fridge to look ugly. At least the prior Samsung had plastic trim over the hardware so I didn't have to see it.
  • The glass shelves are thin. I wonder how long they will last. No chips yet, but I've been very careful. The door shelves are cheap plastic and it was very difficult to install one of them. I had to force it in (yes, it was lined up properly). Upon closer inspection the door shelf wasn't formed properly and a bit too big to fit in the shelf support. But I was able to force it in.
  • The sliding drawers for crisper, vegetables and meat/cheese are very cheap. The plastic is thin and the drawer slides/gliders don't always allow the drawer to slide out easily. Sometimes I need to use both hands, which is annoying when one hand is already holding something to place in the drawer.
  • The sides of the fridge are not stainless. Not easy to see in photos but disappointing. The old Samsung also had crappy gray plastic sides, but I guess this is what all manufacturers do now.
  • The LED lighting is very nice.
  • I like that the icemaker is in the door. This frees up lots of space in the freezer, that would usually be used by an ice maker.
  • The water filter looks easy to replace. It's in the top-right of the fridge, inside, and requires just opening the cover, popping out the old filter, push in the new one and close the door. I haven't replaced it yet (but the "ORDER FILTER") reminder popped up last week), but have one ready to go when the fridge says "REPLACE FILTER". On the prior Samsung I had to screw in/unscrew the water filter (also in top right of interior fridge) and replacing it was a big chore.. it seemed the filter was welded to the fridge.
I heard about the wiring issue with this model (wires in freezer door can kink/break and then you need to replace the entire door) so got the Costco 3 year warranty add-on for $120. So this fridge will have a 5 year warranty (2 with Whirlpool, 3 with Costco/Allstate). Hopefully there will be no issues.

The fridge seems to work fine for dispensing ice/water, making ice, and keeping freezer/fridge at the right temperatures. So far.

I would not buy this fridge again because of the noise issue and build quality. I would accept build quality (low quality materials) for $900, but for the nearly $1200 I paid, it's overpriced. Anyway this could be $500 and I don't think I would buy it because of the noise issue.

I bought this exact fridge from Costco and it was delivered by the "generic truck" that you described. The delivery was done without issue and they picked up the old fridge and hauled it away too. However the joke was on me, because after they left I started to put stuff in the fridge and noticed some muddy footprints on the bottom interior of the refrigerator. Really guys??? I have never had that happen in years and years of deliveries. A brand new fridge with muddy prints on the inside. So of course I returned it!

Just kidding, I kept it because it was pretty easy to clean. But frustrating all the same. The delivery guys also "forgot" to remove some plastic and styrofoam from the freezer (I would have reminded them when I was watching them deliver/install/set up the fridge, but I didn't notice either). Whirlpool had some foam somewhat hidden in the freezer and it was not immediately obvious. But I would expect the delivery crew to thoroughly review/inspect before leaving. Oh well.

Would I use Costco for delivery again? Yup. The cost is tough to beat. Home Depot, Lowe's etc. usually charge a delivery fee and when I was ordering/comparing 5 months ago, one of them (can't remember which) charged an additional haul away fee for an old fridge.

I tried but a mod deleted it. Look around for Kenmore 9081 filters. Currently available at Walmart for $18 for a 2-pack.
Thank you for the suggestion! I wasn't looking forward to paying $50 for another everydrop 1 water filter for my Whirlpool fridge. I have one in the closet ready to go, but I bought a 2-pack of the Kenmore 9081 ($17.99 for a two-pack on eBay). When it arrives next week I'll try the Kenmore filter and see how it goes.
Quote from alexmg2420 :
Have you found it at a decent price from a reputable seller? I see them cheap at Walmart, but they're all from sketchy 3rd party sellers. I'd rather keep running no filter at all than running a possible knock-off filter made with who-know-what materials.
I prefer eBay because they offer a money-back guarantee (via eBay buyer protection). Find a seller with a good feedback rating (98%+ is good for me) and make sure the listing states the item is in brand-new unopened condition. Then if the seller ships you a used product or something that is not identical to what you ordered, you could first try to work with the seller to get your money back. If that fails, file a claim with eBay and they will refund your purchase.

I had to use the claim system once and got my money refunded. This is why I use eBay for this type of purchase. And for <$20, I think it's worth the risk.

I bought one during the July sale. The first month it was quiet. Then after one big Costco haul to fill the freezer, it got extremely loud. It seems to be loud depending on where the items are placed in the freezer. Weird, I know. It was so loud we were considering returning it, but since I have a teenage boy, the freezer clears out decently quickly and it was quiet within a few days again. For our freezer, it's the top shelf that needs to have clearance to reduce noise.

For anyone else considering this fridge, the top shelf of the fridge freezes items very easily. We keep drinks up there now. Don't put your eggs or veggies there or you will lose them.

3. The motor is very loud so being next to the living room is awful. The motor is always running. My old kenmore was quiet and didn't run this much at all.

All that being said I would probably still buy a whirlpool over a samsung or lg. But i would probably try to find something with no water/ice dispensers.

I have this same fridge and it's the worst fridge I've ever owned. So many issues. The fridge makes crazy loud sounds that can easily be heard from the loving room. I've repaired it on my own 2 times already for parts failing and just recently the evaporator fan has been going on and off constantly.

I'm deciding between Whirlpool and Samsung side-by-sides. So many noise complaints in the reviews on Whirlpool refrigerators in the past few years. I assume it's because they all use the same compressor. Samsungs seem to be very quiet, but I don't know if their reliability woes are behind them or not. It seems I have to get very lucky to get a quiet Whirlpool or a reliable Samsung.

It's a hassle to exchange a refrigerator. I would suggest avoiding Samsung *and* Whirlpool based on my past Samsung (and current) Whirlpool experience.
