    Too big as a personal item for a lot of airlines. For example, Spirit and AA both use 18x14x8 as the limit; United is 17x10x9. This bags dimensions are 20x14x7 so there's a chance it wouldn't be a personal item.

    i wear a 50L backpack thats literally bigger than most luggage but never been checked because the airlines just assume it's a "personal item". I love $20 flights. Has worked over 2 dozen times in the US and EU

    I have two of these and used it to travel Europe for a month. Works great, no issues, lots of pockets. I also use it for domestic week long travels. I prefer this than a luggage, frees up both hands. Fits as a carry-on. This price is a great deal.

    Recently bought one of these to to take to Iceland, as euro carryon sizes are smaller than us.

    This bag is fantastic, and much easier than messing with a dolly bag. Plus, you are unlikely to have someone make you measure it since it's on your back.

    Can't do better for the price.

    I considered this issue to but looked it up and think it is too long (about 2 inches too long) for a personal item.

    The problem is that the laptop bags/backpacks etc are mostly too thin for me. I want to take advantage of the full 8" depth/width allowance, but most bags (15.6 laptop bags) are only 4 inches deep

    Southwest says: As you are aware, personal items need to fit under the seat in front of you, with the set dimensions of 16.25" x 13.5" x 8".

    Right. They're fools for not complying with the Spirit/Frontier "personal item" size restrictions -- where this type of bag would be most valuable. Given how crazy the discount airlines have become with sizing these bags (Frontier is now truly ridiculous) there's no way I'd buy this bag and risk a $99 fee. A shame, because I'm in the market for a very large compliant backpack.

    how about the "large" size on this listing (not the "extra large" that has the sale price) - that would seem to fit the requirements for personal item: 18x12x7
