they said that for the upcoming ChatGPT-like functions that OpenAI charges $40/mo. Not for the capabilities you get today with Alexa. See https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...ventually/

They don't have enough users and not providing existing users with enough utility as of now. Don't see they have enough value to charge (for people asking for the weather?)

They are splitting off features on many services and charging for them soon. Even the Ring (owned by Amazon) Alarm Service is splitting off the Alexa burgulry detection feature linkage into a seperare subscription from the monitoring plan.

I am canceling all Amazon subscriptions as they come up for renewal (prime, unlimited music, etc)

They were going to remove a lot of the useful features like Alexa Guard, which is one of the current included features.

Alexa guard is going away next month. It's getting replaced with Alexa emergency assist which is a subscription service.

Is that a useful feature? I've never tried to use it actually. I have an actual alarm system that I'd trust and have more control over

The 3.5mm port is the only reason I still keep Echos around. That port adds bluetooth and streaming to all my older receivers.

Yes. Prime day isn't that great. Better deals can be had two weeks later on used returns from prime day that are essentially brand new.
