The kids version is $10 more and does not have ads. You can remove the graphic case and it's no different than your regular model.

I have the Oasis and a regular Paperwhite. I really don't have anything good to say about the Oasis. It's premium, sure. But the aluminum back is covered by a cover (just like with phones); the hand grip usefulness goes away mostly with a cover; the UI is the same as other Kindles; and the flush screen and extra lighting is basically equal to newer Paperwhites now.
I've been planning on trading in the Oasis for a Paperwhite for basically net $0.
