I thought Amazon made you return and rebuy instead of doing price adjustments.

Yes, but it is not sold by Amazon. Sellers there will try to avoid returns because it hurts their Amazon store in several ways (they have to pay for the return, they have to deal with a used item, and it has a negative impact on their customer satisfaction rating). So asking the seller directly might work.

Send customer service a message, they should refund the difference.

Still shows $169 with -$20 coupon for me. Just got it for $149, also for Proxmox and Home Assistant.

I guess they were listening to SDers when people were complaining about the RPI 5 being too expensive.

Normal price with coupon. This will change back to $169 in a week or two with a $20 coupon.

I have a feeling I'm about to head down a big rabbit hole, but...

I'm pretty ignorant about these things and have been working with a MacBook for a long time now. I do some Java development with IntelliJ and had a need to compile on Windows, so I repurposed an old MacBook Pro 13 I had with BootCamp and Windows 10. It's an Intel i5-4258U CPU @ 2.40GHz w/8GB of RAM.

Per the perf stats shown on the Amazon listing, it seems like this little $150 box could be significantly faster than that old MacBook. Or am I missing something?

One other things I'd appreciate is for the box to be silent (at least when not in active use), so feel free to make other recommendations.

Anyone tried 32GB*2 on it?

You can run more than just home assistant. Throw Plex on it as well and a few other small containers should work great.
