I got a Seagate Exos HDD because they have been available at prices that seem reasonable, but it was obnoxiously loud. Like, "WTF is that?" levels of noise. I put it in a NAS/home server with 6 other spinning drives and the one Seagate was way louder than everything else in the system. Even from several rooms away this drive could be heard, and the sounds are distinctive and annoying. So unless you are planning to use these in a very noise isolating room, or unless you are very hard of hearing, pass on these noise makers that can store data. I returned it due to the noise, probably a good thing because they also don't have a very good reputation for reliability either. I am going to stick with WD Red Plus drives and just wait for those to be available at reasonable prices again.

It's not a Western Digital and it's Newegg, but it seems like this deal may be good enough to overcome those two concerns.

Seagate 16Tb's seem to be faring well in BackBlaze's drive stats, but the 14Tb not so much. Unclear as to how the 20Tb will fare.

Maybe you got a dud? Over the past two years I've purchased six 16TB Exos drives and two 20TB Exos drives (refurbs from Serverpartdeals), and they're not even audible in the SanDisk tower that all 8 are running 24/7 in.

I ordered a couple last week. Surprised to see they're still going for this price.

I could 'almost' justify getting six more to upgrade my zfs server. But I think I'll keep waiting until wd 22tb reds come down to a similar price. Hopefully that happens sometime mid next year once the 24 and 26tb's are floating around more.

I had a similar issue at first. Moved from windows raid (can hear them cross my house) to Unraid and now I can't hear them if I'm next to my pc.
