Ober is kind of the older mountaintop entertainment place. Anakeesta is the newer one. Both have their charm. Ober is like stepping back into the 1970's with wood paneling and lodge like feel. Anakeesta is all fresh lumber and concrete. As far as being more scenic and picturesque, Anakeesta wins. If you have little kids, or you like to get drunk and ride rides, then Ober is more your place.
If you don't mind a 15 minute walk, parking at or near the firehouse is free during peak season. The $20 lots are traps.

Anyone know if the activities are seasonal, specifically the coaster and alpine slide. Planning on going end of November.
The coaster and alpine slide are usually open. That might be affected by snow or rain, but if its snowing you'll still get a chair lift up to an ice skating rink. Hard to go wrong for $25.
If you have the time, you can hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway down in Cherokee and ride a couple hours. You'd get far better views than you get in Gatlinburg. Just be kind and pull out if faster vehicles are behind you.
LOL, when I was a kid I went there and they barely had any snow...my niece went two years ago in January and 100% of the snow was man made and she said it was more like shards of glass and powder...I guess that is why they keep adding all these other activities that don't require snow or cold weather...I will guarantee within 5 years they will sell that land up there and put up luxury homes, it did have some nice views and taking a ski lift down to town for shopping would be fun...they could cut off all road access and make it a no motorized cars enclave for the rich and famous...of course no rich or famous folk would ever set foot up there.
Good deal if you like warm weather winter activities
Thanks, I bought a voucher. Seems like a something new and "cheap" to try for a vacation.
I'm not sure if the site is legit (i've never used them before or even heard of the site) but the voucher looks pretty legit when you print it and I assume it is since it was posted by a SD editor.
