anyone notice the feature comments are on an outdated model X, provided zero information, or just misinformed? I wonder how a post can make to Featured Comments. Pretty useless sometimes where lots of informative posts aren't on there.

I drive 40 miles to work each way. in Washington gas is on average around 5 dollars a gallon. it cost about 18 dollars round trip each day in my old car. I needed a new car because ICE was getting too old and not reliable for commuting.

I bought an ev and use it to commute now. Power bill went up 40 dollars a month total. that is two days round trip driving in my old car. other 18 days of commuting is savings.

EV should get 300k miles total. car will be break even on savings before I hit 300k if use it for commuting.

insurance was a wash for me. about the same on both cars through Costco connect.

not sure how it is not saving me money....

I am not a fan of the politics that surround it.

I have Costco insurance. Right around $110 a month
You mean 110 for both car? Or 110 for Tesla alone? 110 per month should be full coverage. You do full coverage on 12 Acura?

Model Y is not much better. Trust me. I hate it.
Oh my god my Y when going on bumpy roads (everywhere in LA) or faster speeds on highway makes the damn most annoying noises. Can't seem to place it cause I can only hear when driving and can't focus on both.
The center glove clicks each time opens/closes.
The car drives great though no complaints but the noise

The accounting works amortized into 5 years. Beyond that time period it's just putting money into your pocket.

You invest money upfront and get savings later over a period of time. They money you invest in solar panels also improves the value of your home. Best thing I ever did honestly, but you can't understand unless you spend 100+ hours of reading, researching, analyzing and then crunching data post installation.
It doesn't improve the value of your home unless you own the system.

Leases haven't dropped at all, even with tax credit. I would only ever lease an EV.

Just in case people weren't already aware, the $7500 tax credit just lowers your taxable income. It's not a dollar for dollar amount to be refunded at tax time. If your taxable income is $50,000 for 2023, this would lower it to $42.500 (thus lowering the amount of money you owe to the IRS).
It reduces the amount of taxes you owe, meaning if you owe the IRS $10,000, you only need to pay $2500.

Do you live on Mars with Musk ? He was making himself rich at a lot of other people's expense charging and arm and leg for badly made cars !
I have no love for Musk, but I handle pricing for the company I work for. And most prices have gone up by more than 25% percent in the last three years.

So, its not surprising that car mechanic prices have gone up too. Everyone is demanding a higher wage, and the prices of materials are up, also.

How much insurance you guys paying for Tesla cars, just curious.
Depends on the state and insurance company

For me, liberty mutual doubled the cost vs my acura

I switched to state farm with similar coverage and it's higher than the Acura by maybe 15%

Not as bad as people make it but really depends where you are n what company's cover the area

Gas is going up, and you can always put up solar panels on the roof or take advantage of free charging stations. EVs can save you money. Tesla's massive advantage over the competition is its Supercharger network. Everything else about their cars sucks. Full self driving is a joke and will never happen. They've been scamming people for years with that BS. Quality control is non-existent. Even the frickin door handles are stupid.

Picked up a Model 3 last month, and the build quality is just not there. You would think after being in the market for 15 years or so, they would have fixed all the issues...

EV cars doesn't hold value like gas cars, and don't count on resale with the crazy price swings.

Having said that, the "dealers" in my area still live in pandemic market and charge crazy mark-ups for the gas car.

If you qualify for the tax credit, Tesla is probably the cheapest EV car to buy now, but don't expect any luxury from it. It will drive you from A to B

I took my brand new car to service the very next day Frown Frown
