I wouldn't. EVs are more beneficial and cost effective the more you drive them. Switching to an EV when you enjoy your Lexus... I'd say wait until it's time to replace your car and then look around. I drive 200 to 300 miles a month in our gas car and about 1500 miles in our EV. Costs about the same in "fuel", but one can go drastictically further than the other on the same dollar amount. I'd like to switch our gas car for another EV but when you're filling up 8 gallons every 2 weeks or longer... gas prices aren't a big deal. Whether it's $3 a gal or $6 a gal. But that's just me I don't worry about gas prices because I rarely drive gas. With all the price fluctuations it all averages out anyways over time.

Enjoy your ride because based on other people's comments on here you won't like a Tesla. Their comments have me rethinking about getting a Tesla.
I wouldn't either. We own both Tesla Y 2021 and RX 350 2022. The Lexus is very comfy and quiet. Oil change may be once or twice a year, depend how much you drive. Tesla does accelerate really fast, yes, very, very fast. You can speed past any gas car to enter the freeway with authority, but other than that, it is a poorly engineered car.

The hatchback acts like a funnel all of the rain to your trunk. So don't open the hatchback when it rains. The window/door/camera randomly malfunctions when it rains as well.

These guys will tell you no maintenance cost. But they left out that it is very heavy; you will need a new set of tires almost every year (~$1000-$1500) if you drive about 10K miles a year.

And, depending on the electrical in your garage, you will need on average, about $3K to install the home charger.

And lastly, this shit guy sells you a ~$50K (somewhat semi-luxury) without a garage door opener!!!!! #$%#&^&$%$%#$#

The folks that complain the most about Teslas seem to be folks that never owned one -- I put 100k miles on my 3 and then bought a Y to enjoy the tax credit again. No maintenance other than tires and wipers. With the tax credits and money saved on gas I got the Y for free basically.
"Free basically" 😂🤣

How can you say a car that's only been available for four years last forever? Have you heard of battery degradation. In 10 years from now your batter range will be closer 200 miles if it still works. On top of this you aren't exempt from bearing replacement, tie rods, control arms and bushings. We have no idea how long these will cars will last.
Battery degradation exists of course but has been massively overblown by some people. You can't say it's "only been around for four years" as an argument against longevity then say the battery will be crap in 10 years. When hybrids were a new thing there were major concerns about Prius batteries, but a Prius can go 200,000 miles now without a massive drop in efficiency.

the point is that they don't have the 100 different things that can necessitate expensive repairs to an internal combustion engine. Those have a propensity to break in catastrophic ways due to their violent nature, even when maintained properly. I'm not saying the batteries aren't a concern, but the simplicity and reliability of electric motors vs. gas engines outweighs that, in my opinion. And the underlying technology in a new Model Y is essentially the same as that in a Model S that did come out over 10 years ago. Those have indeed proven to be reliable, and build quality has increased over time.

I don't own an EV but they're getting to the point where they make sense to more and more people based on reliability and overall cost of ownership. And that doesn't even begin to factor in driving dynamics, personal preference, or opinions on the greater implications of fuel sources. I'm not in need of a new car at the moment and would like a little more range and/or more fast charging infrastructure, but the time will come.

Not sure why it is so expensive my full coverage with 250k/500k and 500 deductible cost me $1550/year
Insurance company and location? Here in Walnut Creek, CA, I got just a quote of $2,295 from AAA (also have my HO with them) for the Model 3 with spotless record and no claims. Coverage is 300/500,000 with $1,000 deduct.

Good thing most garage doors come with openers. Knocking a car because of a garage door opener - I think we've hit a new low.

Last time Tesla dropped prices, did their margins decrease? It's public information, YES they factually did. How is that then not pro-consumer? Then used to have a 37% margin, now between 9-15% depending model. Many times (public information; do your research) their margins have sequentially lowered. Likely their margins are now even lower with the latest cuts. I'm not saying at all they did this for the goodness of humanity, this is the positive effect of competition and we should all be thankful, even those that already bought or own a car, Tesla or otherwise.
Lower margins has NOTHING to do with pro consumerism. Do you get your research from Fox News ? Crack open their annual report to see what drove their lower margins .. and yes that's public information too . Pro consumerism and competition are two very distinct concepts. You keep bringing them up like they go hand in hand or something

I am in CA with AAA too. I was curious about how much model Y would cost me, and I get nearly exact same quote as you.

The drop by 2k means we get an additional 3k off in Maryland State Credit for EVs under 50k. It's a 5k discount! MYLR
I actually ordered one today. Thanks.

Looks like all the inventory discounts are gone in my area for the moment though. $4-$5k off MSRP hasn't been uncommon the past few months which was a better deal if you can find something that you liked in inventory.

Obviously a better deal if you plan on ordering though.
yeah I snagged $5k off for performance 2 weeks back from inventory, now they dropped 2k but doesn't look like they are offering discount on inventory. so far so good, otherwise I would have felt very bad with this drop.

this is insane price drop since beginning of the year. it went from $66k > $53k > $50k > $48k which is a whopping $18k drop. i'm in the 2nd group and feel bad. hate to be in the 1st group. at least i got in on the 2.49% finance deal back in march so that somewhat makes up for it. they are cutting prices to meet sales goals for the year and its a no brainer at this price if you are on the fence. i have mylr since march and love it.
