I think starting next January the $7500 is like a instant discount coupon taken right at the dealer...no need to wait until tax filing time.
I will give you my ownership experience as a current owner of 2 Teslas and a 3rd one on the way. Before Teslas I was and come from a family of mostly Toyotas/Lexus.
Pros of Tesla:
- Very useful and one of the best infotainment system in terms of contents and responsiveness. Large and very responsive google map.
- Performance. Once you have driven a Tesla and experienced its acceleration and instant torque, it becomes very difficult to drive non EV cars. Besides the fun, the on demand torque can be vbery useful for safety reaosns.
- Probably the safest cars you can drive structurally and safety score wise
- Zero manintence. I have yet to perform any manintence on my two Teslas
- Never having to visit gas stations. I have a level 2 charger at home and am all charged up and rdy to go whenever I leave home
- On the rare occasion or on long distance trips that I need to charge up outside, Tesla Supercharger networks are everywhere
- If you buy the long range versions, unless you drive really long distancers every day, range will hardly be aby issue. Most people dont drive more than 50-60 miles per day.
- Music system/spears are surprisingly good. Watching Netflix with the sound system is a good experience.
- Car receives updates and upgrades regularly via on air update
- Security system and camera system are really nice. I can watch activity around the car from my phone
- Car can be tracked and a number of features operated from phone. Helpful if you have a kid driving your car. Also pretty much makes it theft proof.
- If you have more than one Teslas, they sync up nicely, both driving wise and management wise from your phone
- Battery degradation is a non issue. Most of the degradation happens in first 2 years and is a very low percentage. You might want to check a recent research study done on battery degradation. Not something people should be really concerned about.
- Also ignore people that try to scare you with battery replacement cost. its fully warrantied for 120,000 miles. You will most likely move on to a different car long before then and even then it doesn't mean your battery will fail at 120k miles. No different than cars with engine warranties and engine failures.
- Spacious cargo spaces
- Surprisingly low insurance. Shop around. My insurance for two Tealas were lower than any cars I have owned and by a large margin!
- Super smooth, reliable, and easy super charging experience. I just pull in, and plug in. No need to fumble with payment system. its all setup on phone and car.
- Passenger side windows come tinted! Great for my kids.
BTW, If you want to make your Teslas really OP, get Solar. With all my cars Teslas and Solar powering them, it is an absolute joy.Cons of Tesla:
These things come new with steering wheels that fall off, brake pads not installed, etc.

What percentage of Teslas have build issues? From the comments in this thread, it sounds like 100%?
