OP, remember when I said there would be more deals like the 3800 b/c recession 😬
Receivers literally go on sale every fall (with the exception of COVID/supply chain years).

For about 15 years straight, Denon receivers would go at least 50% off at Fry's (RIP).

Yep. I really needed to replace my x3400 and went with the $1k x3800. But I would have jumped on this one if it was an option.
Curious why you felt a need to upgrade? I have a 3300 and struggle to find a reason to upgrade after the DV firmware update (thanks, Denon!).

No buyers remorse for people who probably got the $999 x3800 in the last few adorama sales. I highly doubt you can tell the difference between the DACs in the 3800 vs 4800 and its "reduced jitter." Besides a couple extra features and inputs, this is really only worth the extra $400 if you think you're an audiophile with a golden ear and you really need that bogus extra 25w per channel wattage (doubtful). If you're using the x3800 as a pre/pro and already have external amplification, that price for a unit with audyssey xt32 and dirac potential, plus full pre-outs is a no brainer.
Having compared them side by side, if you use external amps the difference is minor at best. Especially since they share the same DAC.

If you intend to add Dirac, it would make more sense to apply the $400 to that.

Without amps would depend on your setup & preferred listening levels.

Hmm, I suppose I could go native 4K/120Hz passed through with my Xbox Series X to my projector, but other than that I guess it's not worth the $$ and wiring/programming hassle to upgrade the trusty X4500H until it rolls over and dies someday lol.

Assuming I've got a Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-280FA 5.1 system paired with an Onkyo NR6050 receiver (weak, I know) -- how much of these speakers' potential am I leaving on the table? ROI on upgrading to this Denon?

Edit: Links
Edit2: Forgot to mention, running a second sub (BIC PL-200) left over from a previous setup in tandem with the klipsch.

What would be some benefits to replace an AVR-X4300h with this model? 8k seems to be a ways off from mainstream. Just curious if there are audio features that make this worth the upgrade.
Here is a comparison.
Obvious benefits would be:
Dirac,2.1,8K, preamp mode & 4 independent sub outs.

Damn. I bought it at $1700 a month or two back. Granted that's still a good price, but not as slick as this.

I have to say though, this is a solid unit. Supports all the good stuff like 4K@120Hz, all of the inputs are 8K@60Hz, supports up to four subs in case you want to knock your house off its foundations, ALLM, QMS are supported on all inputs... and I have to say, I have been very impressed with the Auro-3D upmixer. Literally for the first time, I can actually tell my upfiring Atmos speakers are doing something, and you definitely notice the difference between Auro-3D and the Dolby and DTS upmix modes. I have a pretty crap room layout and the Audyssey room correction did an impressive job. Not sure if it's the 4800 or the new sub I got at the same time, or maybe a little of both, but the vocal track on everything is so much easier to hear now. I don't have to set the center channel reference volume to 4-5dB higher than everything else just to be able to make out what people are saying and I can hear little nuances in videos that I was missing before.

Only real downsides I can think of have nothing to do with the audio quality. The remote still sucks just as hard as any other remote from Denon over the past several years. If anyone has figured out how to use Alexa or Google Home to change to Game 1 or Game 2 inputs, please tell me because I cannot figure it out for the life of me--other inputs work just fine, only those two don't work. The setup UI is only a mild refinement from my old 2200W and is still pretty clunky.
Any thoughts of getting dirac?

Good price I just wish dirac was included like the Onkyo txrz50. The license has become very expensive. My old NAD came with a limited license and the upgrade was only $99. I believe the new price is $250 just for the limited license 😔

Looks like on that model the Auro-3D is a paid upgrade. I've been very pleasantly surprised at how good that upmixer is compared to the Dolby and DTS upmixers. I'd say the main selling point for this model, however, is if you have a TV that supports things like the VRR and 4K@120Hz which might be nice if you've got an Xbox Series X or PS5.

Honestly, no. I mean, if I were like 20-years younger and still had all kinds of free time and energy to do a deep dive into how to set up Dirac, then maybe. But at this point in my life I just want to be able to do a quick recalibration if I change speaker or furniture placement, and then get back to watching/listening to something. Between Audyssey and Auro-3D upmixing, and the rather unforgiving layout of my current viewing/listening area, I just don't see how Dirac could really be that much better. At least not enough to justify at least $250 for the software and then a mic on top, which is probably another $100... And how often am I likely going to use it? Unless I change something about the room layout -- which, see my earlier comments about being old and lazy -- I'd likely only use it a single time. Maybe if for some reason I came across two simultaneous deals where Denon was offering the upgrade at a steep discount and I could a really slick deal on a calibration mic, but it'd have to be probably less than $200 for the both of them for me to even consider it, and unless it was a lot closer to $100 I'd probably just sit around thinking about it so long the deal expired.

I would argue it's a good thing because this deal would not be this price, Dirac is never free.

As good as BOTH Dirac RC's are, Audyssey isn't too shabby & now with their new directional sub integration, another plus!

If you added the full bandwidth on this at this price it would easily compete with the new RZ70/LX805, new starts at $2800.

IMO the bigger advantage to Dirac is their DLBC RC, that will be an option sometime next year with this.
