Bought it, thanks for the memories, Dr.W. I'm done laptop shopping for another 5 years. I was on the fence for the Alienware 3070TI, 512GB SSD, AMD Ryzen 7 processor this morning open box for $969.99, but glad I waited for your middle of the night post. This one for $57 more gets me exactly what I want, 13th gen Intel processor, the 1TB SSD, the cooler and faster 4070 GPU. This is pretty much the sweet spot before going up to the mega bucks laptops (4080 and 4090).

Thank you, for the kind words.

However, apologies as I'm about to make your decision just a little bit harder but you should look at this deal as well. In terms of display and weight/portability, the Legion is much better and costs less: https://slickdeals.net/f/16976926-lenovo-legion-pro-5i-open-box-excellent-16-qhd-240hz-i7-13700hx-rtx-4070-16gb-ddr5-1tb-ssd-1009-99?src=category_page

Overall, I'd say Legion is a better deal. IMO you should go for that but it's up to you. 😊

the legion has better screen (500 nit vs 300 nit), and ~2 lb lighter. It is a much better deal.

Oh man, I fell asleep and that one is gone now, oh well. I concur though I like that one a tad more. My son wants the Alienware, so maybe I'm still ok with what I got. if you see anymore, let me know though.

Haha tried again and got it! Cancelled the Alienware. Concur, better laptop for the money! Hopefully it ships, kept going in and out of stock while I tried to check out. If not, back in action on Slickdeals laptop searching (which strangely was also fun for me).

Just a word of caution, I recently purchased an open-box, in excellent condition Alienware laptop from BestBuy and it was in very poor condition.
There was a dent on the back of the screen, the screen and laptop has dried droplets all over it and there was glue left on the back of the screen, assuming it was from some sticker/tag used by BestBuy.

Easy fix to that though, just show up at the store for a refund. Hassle factor of that though.

I did drive to the store and get a refund. They offered me an additional $88 credit to keep it, but ultimately I did not think it was worth the risk, but definitely agree with you that it is a hassle to have to drive to the store for a refund.
