Haven't thought about these for years! Haven't had a drive or player to read them in years either.

Price has gone up a lot. Less demand, lower production = higher prices. In 2018 you could buy a 50 pack for $15. HTL(inorganic) are better than LTH(organic) Blu-rays.

These might be useful for short term(data gets outdated) read only data backups. Mdiscs are useful for long term read only data backup.

Comes down to ~$30 per TB, all I see is a ghost technology. When 20TB HDD can be ad for round $200, I am curious who would buy these. Even if these come down to $10 per 50 pack, I would not consider it.

The advantage is that BD-r is read only. Can't be erased or encrypted. These discs use an organic dye, so they are not the best long term storage solution. Bd-r is an alternative backup method.

Write once, read many tape drives might be considered an old technology. Large companies still use them for backup because of ransomware and wiper malware.

HDD might be considered a ghost technology. SSD are higher performance. HDD has the advantage of lower cost per TB.

Absolutely still used, especially in government and law enforcement. When bringing data into a secure government facility, you can't bring anything writable or changeable. When chain-of-custody matters, you need to be able to prove data wasn't altered. Write-once hard drives and flash do exist, but the certified ones are ridiculously expensive and only made by a few vendors. Write-once media is essential for these cases, and probably keeps the market going. I know the jokes and quips are clever, but same places also have people carrying pagers. Things like this probably keep the market going, or other archival uses... But just because it's no use for you, doesn't mean it's useless. Our company buys disc media on the regular exactly for this reason. We do classified work, and data only goes one way - in and never out - and it's shredded once done.
Down to $32 for Cyber Monday btw.
