I have had the 6xx for years have been craving "the original" colorway with Sennheiser branding. I hopped on this deal even though they sound the exact same lol. More of a collector's mindset, but if anyone wants the save the cash the 6xx is absolutely the better buy, and even comes with more premium packaging.

drop had hd8xx for as low as $1099 with $200 credit (or even less), yet hd800 always sells well at $1150
they are different headphones with a different sound signature

In the case of 800s/8xx, yes. They made tuning changes. For 6xx they did not. 650 has the advantage of a better build and Sennheiser warranty.
ohh, so 6xx same drivers but lesser quality construction? interesting

No, but they do better with one. I don't listen to loud music but a dedicated amp allows me to have more possible volume range from them.

I have the 6xx's. That cable doesn't need to be any longer lmao.
The only reason I could think of for a longer cable is if you were plugging in to a stack from halfway across your room.
I'll say this too, I've never actually held a Laird of 650's in person, but I can compare the 6xx's to Philips Fidelio L1's and X2HRs. the build quality on the Sennheisers is a definitely a step down compared to those two. premium metal and leather vs plastic.
BUT, the build quality on 6xx's are fine. I don't see where they'd fail unless you just squashed them with your butt or they take a super awkward fall on tile/concrete
Even the MassDrop HD6xx I got came with the storage box.
The HD6xx materials are good enough. But if you absolutely must have the Sennheiser HD650, don't care about no storage box, and willing to pay about $90 more, then this is a good deal.
