Drop has 6xx on sale for $179. Additional $10 off of you have a new account.
6xx and 650 are identical drivers, but the 6xx just use the old plastic mold (rounder edges) and have a dark blue matte paint. The 6xx also come with a shorter cable than the Sennheiser branded 650s.

I have had the 6xx for years have been craving "the original" colorway with Sennheiser branding. I hopped on this deal even though they sound the exact same lol. More of a collector's mindset, but if anyone wants the save the cash the 6xx is absolutely the better buy, and even comes with more premium packaging.
To bring out the best of the 650, you should.

Any recommendation for an affordable amplifier sir? And hd 650 or 660s2?
I don't have this but it's well regarded for the money: Fosi Audio K5 Pro (About $70)

I like my TOPPING DX3 Pro+ (currently $175 on Amazon, which is a good price for it).

I mainly poked around https://www.audiosciencereview.com/ and found what I thought was a good balance between performance and price.

I like the HD 650 (I use the Drop version, which are less expensive but sound the same) but haven't tried the 660s.

I'm curious if the 300ohm impedance in the 650s or 6xx's would be too high for a fender mustang micro amp to drive for apartment guitar practice. I currently use M50x which Reddit likes to dunk on but the low impedance seems to be feature in this use case

Using my HD 650 daily for the last 7 years, still kicking and sound amazing.

Only downside is if you have straight hair you will at some point find a hair stuck in the thin padding, touching up against the driver causing it to sound distorted. So you'll have to keep an eye on that every once in a while and remove it.

They should sound almost identical?

I have the Sennheiser HD 800S, Focal Clear MG pro, HiFiman Ananda, and a few other headphones but the HD650 is the one I use 95% of the time. Lightweight, soft pads, doesn't feel like its clamping, very comfortable to wear. I have not been careful with these, dropped them constantly, yanked the cables, ran over the cables hundreds of times with my office chair and still performs and looks brand new. Doesn't perform technically as well as some of the other headphones I have but I enjoy the sound and it's very easy to listen to.

Purchased it 6 years ago for $300 and personally one of my top 10 purchases/belongings in my life.

I folded. I've been wanting a pair of the HD600 headphones for a few months now, but these HD650s were too good of a deal to pass up. Adorama has PayPal, which does Pay-in-4, plus I just got paid out from a settlement so I had a little extra cash. Can't wait to pair these up with my BTR5!

Amazing deal.. Paid around $499 for these a few years back.. Love'em! But, if you're a bass head..don't bother with open cans (generally speaking)..

Do you notice much difference in the material quality between the two?
No its just the shape of the plastic. To be fair I don't have the new 650s in hand yet, but I have new HD600s and the 6xx and its just the sharp edges of the newer modern molds vs the slightly rounded mold of the 6xx (which is the older mold for HD600/650 series). Just aesthetics, no real difference build materials.

HD650s will always have a place in my heart even though I don't use them anymore. I bought mine back in 2005 and was my first "Audiophile" purchase alongside a Schiit Bifrost + Asgard. It's now retired near my monitor since I've moved on to other headphones like the HD800S, Utopia, Susvara.

Well worth the money.

I recently got the HD 450 BT for 70 shipped. It was a used like new pair, but good deal on $120 headphones. I'm not sure I would pay this much for the 650 HD.
You're comparing the HD450 BT and the HD650 based on what?
experience? or model numbers? Smilie

Never mind. I somehow had 660 in mind when I relied.

Well worth the money.

Curious if you can articulate the performance gain of the 800. I used to fall into the trap of "how much better can it get?!"

I like the 650 + amp enough that I bought a spare. Sometimes Adorama has deals too good to pass up. This was one of those deals.

In a crazy world of inflation it's pretty cool when something is cheaper now vs 15 years ago. 🙂
