It has a big screen, but is significantly lighter and cheaper than an M2 16 inch MacBook Pro?

This will likely go down as one of the all time great computers for me. Literally not a single complaint, it's just about perfect.

It gives me everything I want: most of the power, build quality, stability and screen size that I enjoy with my work MBP M1 Pro and adds insane battery life in a light package.

It's a great computer for anyone with the use case/money and understands what it means to "buy once, cry once".

It's for people who aren't doing any super heavy work that would require a Pro or higher SoC but still runs enough applications that 8GB won't cut it. Having 1TB is nice, but I suspect most people can get by with 512GB. It's what I had on my old Intel-based MacBook Pro that I used for software development.

Anyway, the average consumer is probably more interested in thin-and-light and battery life than they are compute power.

The open box excellent shows available for shipping for me, but maybe shipping is location dependent?

I don't truly understand the use case for someone who buys a 15'' spec'd out MBA. It's almost like it's for a person who isn't a professional, but also isn't a regular user.

I used to do asset management for a very large company and this would be where I would interject and ask a Project Manager "what is your engineer really trying to do here????"

It'd be like folks who would request base model MBAs instead of a fully spec'd Latitude that's imaged "just because".

It's a great compromise for an average user. Scaled back compute resources from the MBP in a thin and light daily driver.

RAM and Storage do not equate to speed. Average users still need productivity and file storage capability.

That's overkill though for a regular user, as the base model itself was made for...the regular user.

I was thinking maybe it's for the person who distrusts iCloud backup and is heavy into storing videos. Else, a small profile USB 3.1 (or even the new gen 2s) could easily work.

Just feels like what someone who had $1500 to spend would buy....while If I did, I'd get a lower spec'd 14'' MBP and call it a day. Many pros are still working on '18-'19s at my last job, so a "pro-consumer" could make like a bandit at a similarly priced MBP.
There have been a lot of cert refurb deals for 14" m1 pro mbps lately at roughly this price, but they're refurbs. List for new m1 and m2 pros is at or upwards of ~$2k

Man I wish this air had the same amount of ports as my 14" or atleast they should've moved a type c port on both sides instead of all on one side

If they did this one little thing I would get the air for the larger screen and lighter footprint.
