I worked in a data center for 7 years and was seeing drives of all brands fail daily. We also used various types of drives there, consumers and enterprise/DC level drives. A 10 hour shift, there are days you would replace 20+ drives and days you would replace 0 (not many of those)

Thanks! I bought the Seagates, this time, as I have a few WD Red Pros that have extremely high pitched whines. I also have a few that don't so it's luck of the draw.

I can deal with noise but not the high pitched whining.

I removed the 3.3v wire from one of my SATA connectors. Will this WD still work on that connector? I can easily reinstall the 3.3v wire in the connector if I need to.

That WD drive has a 5yr warranty from the mfg.

In general should I replace older drive even when they show no sign of issues? I had two 3TB WD RED from almost 9 years ago. Got a NAS and bought another 10TB recently. Was thinking to grab two of the 18TB ether to expand or replace the 3TB drives.

depends on your setup? raid5/6? Any backups? 9 years is a long time to expect. I am lucky to push mine past 3.5 years before upgrades
