    This box works as both an expansion and a self-contained 2-player version of Wingspan, so it's a pretty good option if you only ever play with another person.

    This is my partner and my favorite board game at the moment. I don't have Asia yet, but we have the first two expansions. This would be a great gift option for getting someone into the game (2 player) without purchasing the base game.

    I don't quite remember what the difference between the oceania + europe expansions were. I think added nectars? All expansions add their respective new bird cards and powers, some bonus cards, etc.

    My extended family really liked the Asia expansion because they added the capability of adding more players. There's also a new spinny turn system that lets 2 people go at the same time. It kinda does make it seem like 2 different games are going on at once though. But then again, wingspan pretty much feels like everyone is playing a game within a game to begin with.

    Oh and if you want to buy more sets, there is a super box that is meant to house* multiple expansions and comes with the Asia expansion "included". It sold out last year but should be back in the next few months. Pricey but so pretty lol

    I think it comes down to how many people do you see playing this. BGG members say ASIA is best for 1-2 players, EUROPEAN 3 players and OCEANIA 3-4 players. Also, if you were looking to get OCEANIA, it was on sale during the Prime days last week for $19.37, so it might go on sale again before Xmas.

    Weird since the original game supports 1-5 players. It does seem like from other replies the 2 player version is different than the base game with 2 players. I am not sure a new 2 player variant is needed.

    You mean BGG says this is a 1-2 player game and it is not listed as an expansion but a stand alone game. Frown i originally went to the base game and clicked expansions to be befuddled when it was missing.

    This one only comes with enough components to support 2 players out of the box (it's a much smaller box and it's cheaper than the base Wingspan). If it supported 5 players out of the box, they would need to include more player boards, eggs, wooden cubes, and bird and bonus cards, all of which would drive the cost way up. So that's why there's the discrepancy in player count. You could certainly just add the components from this game to base Wingspan and play a 5 player game with the new birds (or even a 6-7 player game in Flock Mode).

    As for the 2 player mode that comes with this game, is it needed? Probably not. But it is an interesting way to shake things up for the 2 player game by overhauling the end of round goals and making it less likely that both players will be going after the same birds that fulfill those goals. Personally, I think it's extremely clever how they managed to make this a standalone game that can also be combined with everything else, while minimizing the amount of components that you're unnecessarily buying twice.
