I gotta say I am confused by this kind of statements on the MacBook threads. The M architecture has been debated and explored thoroughly in the years since it came out.
You see examples of windows laptops coming out with 8gb and still performing for what lots of folks are looking for.

Snagged one for $593 off amazon warehouse this week in acceptable condition. 1 battery cycle, apple warranty until July 24'. Looks perfect. My 2020 intel 16gb macbook air is the second worst computer I've ever owned. The battery life is nonexistent on that piece of crap.

Be open-minded. I'm a PC guy through and through, but own Macbooks for Youtube content creation. Comparing a Macbook's 8gb RAM to PC's 8gb RAM are like comparing apples to oranges. Apple's Unified Memory design really does make a difference in a good way. Not to mention these M1, M2 and upcoming M3 chips are freakin' good.

I never buy refurb as I'm not sure how secure it is to use. Can anybody speak up if it's risky with virus and what not even tho they are "wiped"?

Factory reset should remove all files and data that could contain malware or virus. I imagine they should show up reset. But you can always do a reset yourself once you receive it. A quick google brings up lots of sites that explain how to do it. I would feel safe buying this.

I've only seen Apple verified refurbished sold by Apple directly, but I have not examined that extensively

I still have a late 2013 top spec 15" MB pro. I use opencore for latest os and it works so well I can't bring myself to buy another Mac yet.

Need more no-nonsense opinions like this instead of Apple haters and fanboys.

That's great that the video card in that machine hasn't failed yet.
