In for 1, best deal yet on a 4080 with a 17+ " screen. Due to space constraints I can't use a desktop so this should be a good desktop replacement that I think can last me 3 - 4 years easily. I am glad I did not pull the trigger on the 3080ti version of this, not that there is anything wrong with it.

Is this the full powered (175w) 4080? I am assuming it is, but there really isn't much info available.

Are the RAM and SSD upgradable? 16G / 512 seems a little low

Yes. My friend has last year's model and I upgraded the SSD and RAM for him. HP hasn't really changed the Omen 17 design this year. There are two NVME slots and both RAM are replaceable. NVME slots also come with heatsinks preinstalled. However, I'm not sure if double sided NVME are compatible.

There will definitely be better deals come Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Might even see i9/R9 with 32gb at this price point.

Yep! Easy access as well. Pop back panel and ram / second slot for an m.2 is right there. Regarding better deals for Black Friday. Eh. Haven't seen a 4080 close to this price yet with this size screen. This processor is no slouch either. Wish it came with 32gb. But 16 will suffice in 90 percent of titles.

How is it possible to create a large 17" laptop without a proper numpad?

They have to add the useless macro buttons on the left nobody asked for and wouldn't be missed.

This is my only complaint. Keyboard is wacky from a layout standpoint. Otherwise. Thermals are good. Screen looks great. GPU and CPU are beasts.

Former Omen owner - the macro keys were so annoying, I never got used to the spacing of the keyboard. Other than that the machine was great until a port on the MOBO died. Invest in a USB keyboard and it's a decent experience.

I'm really debating between pulling the trigger on a deal like this or waiting for the ultra core processors. The battery life on many of these machines seems really poor, even under light usage and I am hoping the ultra processors will mean a gaming laptop with an 8 hour battery life when being used for light tasks (browsing, word processing, etc)
