I've found the thermostat significantly lacking in functionality compared to a nest (granted, nest is at a much higher price point). With this, you have three presets- home, away, and sleep. You get to set one temp for each of those and build your schedule around that... you can then adjust manually via echo devices or at the unit.
yeah. wyze is known for such great security, you won't be locked in at all. people from all over the world will be able to control your thermostat
I bought two of these last July 2022. One upstairs, one downstairs. Both were working fine for a few days, and then Amazon did a firmware update. The update bricked the downstairs one. After going through many levels of Amazon and Honeywell's CS over the next several days, Amazon finally sent me a replacement. I installed the replacement with no further issues.

Both are working well. I like the ability to change my temps remotely from an Echo Dot or my phone. They have all the features I want or require. I've never had to reset or reboot them since my replacement arrived.

One caveat: Prior to installing them the first time, I measured the voltage of the blue C-wire. It measured 28v on my multimeter. But, they would not turn on. I finally called my HVAC guy. He was at my house immediately. He measured the same voltage and was perplexed as I was. After crawling up in my attic and hooking up the C-wires, the thermostats worked right away. He said I was getting an inductive voltage reading. A false reading. I tried to pay him, but he wouldn't take my money. He's a keeper.

Anybody know if this works with 2 stage heat and 2 stage cool? I could not find a direct answer. tia
It actually does NOT work with 2 heat/2 cool. I bought this a couple months ago and literally just went through this with Amazon and Honeywell (who makes and supports Amazon thermostats) 2 weeks ago when I got a new HVAC unit, and installed the t-stat. I ended up using this one for another house.

Honeywell actually recommended quite a few of them, but this is what I ended up getting: Honeywell Home RENEWRTH9585WF Wi-Fi Smart Color Thermostat (Renewed). Since the support was so great when I was trying to get the Amazon one to work, I went with the renewed one. I also got it from Amazon Warehouse, almost brand new, and it came out to be around $60. Usually they are around $200. Use WRTH9585WF to see the reviews. Here's the link:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3Q14...tails&th=1

It literally showed up this week, so I haven't set it up yet. But I've found that if you search for "2 Heat / 2 Cool" on Amazon then it brings up quite a few options. Most are at $150-$200 though. I also thought about the Nest, which was $80 this week, but I've asked 3 HVAC techs and they all say they hate working on the Nest. They all like the Honeywell.

Hope that helps! Smilie

I looked around for quite a while as I have a Lennox and the only one that could satisfy all the needs was an ecobee. I have a variable one, so even in two stage the Lennox will adjust the stages automatically (with a dip setting). The AC is 2 stage, it was pretty easy to setup. It also does the ventilator and humidifier (if that matters). I had to use 8-wire tho.

I'm assuming you spent $$$ on that setup, so maybe $200 for an ecobee makes sense. If Amazon is dumping these for $30 that likely means they are going to stop supporting it--or then start charging to use it. Either way its a lose lose.
I actually just did this last week too. I bought this for my 2 heat/2 cool and it actually does not work. Honeywell gave a few suggestions for t-stats, and the Ecobee looked pretty good to me too. I ended up finding a Honeywell that was Renewed, and also Amazon Warehouse so it came out to be $60. (usually @ $200) It just showed up this week, so I haven't installed it yet. But if you're still looking, here is the one that I ordered:

The C-wire is a blue wire in the bundle of wires coming out of your wall to your thermostat. It is generally wrapped around the bundle of wires that connect to your thermostat and is not hooked up on the HVAC end either. That's where the power connector is on newer systems. Older systems do not have a blue C-wire. My HVAC system is 24 years old. If you do not have a blue C-wire or an unused wire of a different color, then power must be supplied by a power adapter near your thermostat. Not an attractive option.

Home HVAC operates on a 24VAC system. Heat, cool and fan (in basic systems) is controlled by the thermostat simply connecting the 24VAC line to one of 3 different wires (heat, cool or fan). In less sophisticated units that operate mechanically or electrically (battery), nothing else is needed.

In newer tstats, especially ones that have fancy screens or connect to the internet, they need more power and thus use the other wire of the 24VAC which is the C wire. All systems will have the "C" wire present at the controller (since they use 24VAC for control, both legs are there), but not all will have an extra wire run from the transformer to the thermostat locations. Some will have multiple wires run, but simply not connected.

The best thing to do is to take your current tstat off the wall, look for common color coding (C is usually blue but that's nothing but a convention) or labeling on the existing tstat that would say C, R, Rh, Rc, W, Y, etc. If there is no C wire there, take note if there are any conductors in the wall that aren't being used.
