VA panel alert!

No, you're seeing responses from some of SD's tech elitists that do not account for the other 99% of real world people's opinions.

These same people will tell you that you'd be better off not owning a TV at all if you're not buying an 83" OLED.

Well, I'm typing on an LG 49WQ95CW, which I bought last year that has nanoIPS panel. The curvature is pretty bad, but other than that I've been pretty happy with it.

So of course, I totally needed a second one, and when I saw the UltraGear 49" with increased curvature for around $800 earlier this year I thought I hit the jackpot. Then I discovered it was VA. So maybe it is for some people, but it certainly wasn't for me.

I'd say the post was clearly useful for people rather than pointing out it is supposedly so obvious.

I don't know how that's really an alert when it's literally THE default for curved screens. You should see a curved panel and like automatically assume that. Especially if it's any sort of deal at all. And then upon further investigation, you can be pleasantly surprised that it's one of the rare ones that's not VA. But it should absolutely be your first assumption. Really you should be going around alerting people to the one's that aren't VA if you're trying to be helpful.

I have this model, got it for $400 before launch in exchange for a couple reviews.

Its a great monitor for me and the 240hz jump over the 120hz Samsung I replaced was a nice upgrade for gaming.

Overall, I would say that most of the 49" ultra ultrawide displays are very similar (Samsung, this one, AOC, etc) and price point should probably be the only real differential when making a decision.

in my opinion, this would be an excellent buy in the 600 dollar range.

With all this VA panel mention, I just realized today mine is VA & idk how I could miss that. Are they that bad for latency despite the 1ms response rate advertisement?

I don't own or have experience with this particular monitor, but I can speak about VA panels.
I own a Acer Predator 32" Curved 1440P 165Hz GSync display, and it's awesome! I cannot perceive any latency running games at high (>120fps) framerates in 4K DL-DSR upscaled. Picture is super fluid with GSync + VSync, and the color/contrast is great too with some tweaking. The only complaint is the viewing angles are not as good as a IPS/OLED display.

Nothing elitist about it. It's not like we're out here complaining about 100 nits difference in peak brightness or 10hz refresh speed. It's that some (most?) VA panels will smear, and virtually all (possible exception on the Samsung VAs but cannot confirm) will flicker at some point when using adaptive sync.

If those things don't bother you, go for it. You'll save some dough. But don't dismiss it outright.
Lol wow. So if anyone is reading this, can confirm that this exact monitor doesn't flicker if you happen to have Freesync/G-Sync enabled.

Ridiculous.

Would be a good deal if it had another 10-15 nits.</sarcasm>
