If it can read, it can rip too.

Nearly any PC should be able to rip with it, but playing 4K films directly off discs requires a 6th-10th generation Intel Core CPU. AMDs, Pentiums, Celerons, Xeons, etc are out of luck.

personal data only. cant even rip a single liongate or disney disc. flashing is like halfbake. everything seems to work until you get either scsi or failed to read errors.
Use makemkv. All instructions are there.

I've had this exact drive for a few years now and have ripped multiple Blu-Rays with MakeMkv and converted/compressed with Handbrake. As long as this is the same model as I have (looks exactly the same but could have different guts) it IS flashable to play/rip 4k/3D discs as well*. Not as fast as a 5.25" drive would be but it is very light and portable and doesn't need external power or a SATA connection. It's pretty quiet too.

I've only ran into a few movies that just wouldn't rip, and I don't think it was the movies themselves just something with the discs because one of them was Jurassic Park 2, whereas all the other movies in the series ripped perfectly fine.

*Just be sure to follow the flashing instructions carefully if you go that route so you don't accidentally brick your drive.

P.S. I got a "Lacdo" brand hardshell case on Amazon to keep it safe when I'm not using it.

it's complicated... the 4k uhd bluray spec is for 4:2:0 hevc, and that's what bluray discs use.

amd supports 4:2:0 h.265 hevc decoding, for instance: https://www.amd.com/en/products/g...iting.html

where amd/nivida fall short is that neither has 4:2:2 hevc decoding support, which is what you want when editing high-quality 4k video.

the problem with playing back 4k bluray on a computer is with the DRM, which makes it pretty much a fail, htpc is dead: https://www.reddit.com/r/htpc/com..._policies/

if you had read the thread, you'd have seen that this drive has a usb connection, it's NOT a scsi connection.

don't threadcrap with things that are not relevant.
sounds like you dont even read my post or you cant view my [code] quote on mobile. turn your desktop mode on.

its got nothing to do with scsi. its the error that you would get on any external or internal player. for copyright contents or software/hardware related. could be a halfbake flashing.

quoting you directly: "you get either scsi or failed to read errors."

no, you can't get "scsi errors" because this is not a scsi drive.

that code you posted has nothing to do with scsi.
Sorry to intervene, but you do get scsi error if ripping using makeMKV and if the disc has some bad spots. Usually it is related to medium error (which in this case is a disc) and softly wiping the disc could solve it.

makemkv cant do liongate or disney discs. search for the right clip # got nowhere.
Disney or Liongate doesn't add anything different to their discs. I've ripped every disc out there.
