I tried the demo and it wasn't a thing for me but then the demo doesn't really tell the whole story of the game I'm sure. But I can see how it would be a good game optimized for action/multiplayer as you say. In co-op you probably don't want to sit through a 20 minute cinematic sequence before each bit of action! I know the FF series jumps between styles and genres so I think this is why there are mixed reviews of this, with some positive as yours, and some not so much. I'd still like to try it as a full game (not just the brief demo).
I personally really had a blast with all the games basic mechanics and the variety of playstyles it gives you.
