Have both. The XM5 has better noise cancellation on planes. Considerable difference IMO. Bose are more comfortable and have better clarity. XM5 has better bass.

I bought them for $200 Black Friday 2022. I'd recommend them.
They sound great, the noise cancelling is very good, but not quite as good as my Sony XM4's. If you're putting away silverware or clank a glass, the Bose attempts to compensate and winds up sending a loud counter clank.
However, I cannot recommend any Sony's. The XM4 earbuds had the dead battery issue and my XM4 headphones have the random ear piercing squeal with ANC. Their quality control and reliability are not worth the risk.

I think I paid 200 for these at Costco last year? I'm no audiophile, but they're easily the best pair of headphones I have. Super recommend.

I like sony xm sound but nowhere close to comfort level of qc 45. After trying out both, i settled with 35-2 and have been sticking w bose since. Until Sony can figure out a way to make a lighter more comfortable headphone with the sony sound signature, i will stick w bose.

I have the 45's. Very comfortable good noise cancellation. Sound needs to be EQ'd to reduce shrill treble imho.

I stick with QC's because sony XM's ANC give me vertigo, have since their inception not sure what they do differently than bose or apple.

No option to use them wired, without Bluetooth?
You can use them wired and IIRC they also come with a plane adapter.

Same here... I give it a try with every new model of the XMs and the result is the same... vertigo and nausea in the first 3 minutes. I can wear the QCs all day long without an issue.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but the truth is this is the most expensive set of headphones I have ever bought. So maybe I shouldn't be surprised?
I've had lots of headphones and buds that have been in the ~$50 range, so it feels super unfair to even try to compare them.
They're crazy comfortable, I'm amazed at how well noise canceling works, and they sound great.
Sorry I'm not more help!

What is meaning of SE at the end? If this is costco special model, which is the comparable/equivalent headphone on bose website?
Soft case vs hard case.

Ah heck. I just bought these last week from Bose's ebay store refurbished for $160.

Ugh, gonna have to return them and get these new ones with 2 years warranty.
I also bought them last week, loving them so far. I also received an email from eBay:

Your Certified Refurbished item(s) comes with a two-year warranty, serviced by SquareTrade, an Allstate company. Your warranty is automatically applied from the date of purchase.

Has anybody utilized the warranty service before? I'm leaning toward keeping the refurb, they came in excellent condition and work great with the hard case!

I am waiting on the Quiet Comfort Ultra. I know they just released so waiting for the price to start dropping (maybe something planned for Black Friday?)

What's the return policy on these at Costco? I had an older Bose NC over the ear model, treated them with white gloves. 2 years into using them , the literally broke in half....no bad treatment, no dropping or bending (hadn't used in 3 months, pulled them out of bag , put on head and the cracked. POS!)

When was this released? New ones coming out?
New ones already came out. The replacement for the QC 45 is called, confusingly, just the QuietComfort Headphones, and they also have a pricier QuietComfort Ultra.

The new naming should simplify things going forward... QuietComfort and QuietComfort Ultra. When they release an updated version in a few years hopefully it'll be QuietComfort 2 and QuietComfort 2 Ultra as opposed to 50, 55, 60, 65, etc.

So on a 15 hour flight which would wear?
