Some corporations track objective metrics like the duration you're 'active' (make mouse movements, keystrokes) during a workday as a proxy for employee productivity. If you're someone who tends to work for a really focussed session for a few hours and then take a break for a while, delivering same or better productivity, you'd still be hurt by these metrics. These devices help to improve such metrics.
Or maybe if someone just wants to stay away from their work computer for a while, but didn't want to appear offline or 'Away' for colleagues on Teams or Slack.
