I recently saw an Ultra post here on SD for $665 or something, but I think this AW 8 deal is better value for money. I briefly had an Ultra but returned it b/c of buyer's remorse and bought a discounted 44mm AW 7.
In real life, the functionality of the Ultra isn't much different than AW8 unless you scuba dive. If you like a chunkier watch, that's a reason to buy the Ultra over AW 8 too, but while the Ultra is physically bigger the screen isn't appreciably that much bigger than what's on the 45mm AW.
On a "life span" basis I can't say because I usually trade up every 2-3 years as new features accumulate. Even with the older models that has worse daily battery life I never had a problem getting a full day's use out of them.

It's a serious question and not a troll, I am trying to figure out what all am I missing to make full use of the product. so far my use have been to see notifications of call, text, silent call, and once in a while respond to text which is brutal on this small size so I just avoid doing this. And when in gym, I just start workout monitoring. Thats all what I do with my watch.
