Got this last year for $240, according to my HD receipt. Good price.

As a weekend warrior / DIYer who does the occasional small project on the house + helping my wife with her crazy ideas, I would definitely recommend waiting / looking for packout drawers instead of the toolboxes. Way higher retrieve-ability.

Packouts are still way overkill for any homeowner but that doesn't stop me from having a set.

There is also a buy more save more $90 off $300 active (same price if you grab these 3 individually) which allows you to mix match some of the other ones if you want. buy more isn't per-item prorated so you can't use it to get individual parts cheaper

A new similar system from Toughbuilt called StackTech is just coming out and available at Lowes. They have a good introductory discount. It looks like a very good system. I am considering getting it. I would at least look at that before going with the Packout.

I got the above deal for $200 from FAO a year ago, been looking for deals on the drawers but they don't seem to ever go on sale and they are never included in the package deal like this when I searched

Agreed, drawers are much more useful if they are gonna sit. The boxes are great for on the go and still good though, if you want to roll stuff around. Drawers go on sale usually with the buy more save more deals. 4-drawer units just came out to complement the 2 and 3 - drawer units.

I picked up the 3 drawer from FAO on eBay for $125. It was during the Prime day 2 weeks ago.

Would this be good for an overlanding setup to carry tools and spare parts? I currently use a couple tote bags, but want something with more protection for when the trail gets rough and things start getting knocked around.

For what sounds like intermittent use, you could get the Ridgid ones. Plenty rugged and not as attention grabbing as red Packout. Could spray the orange logo black. They have the metal hinges on the side for locking units together. I have several Ridgids and Packouts. Quite rugged though I have not tested wheeling them about off pavement.

But it really all depends on what your storage space is like. What you are driving. They weigh a fair bit on their own. And a Pack-out stack takes up a fair bit of space. Instead, you could have two three extended drawers under the garage / bed space or under a raised vehicle floor, keeps all the extra weight down low, easy to retrieve, no fussing with boxes and their shapes.

For light parts one could have an aluminum roof bin or two. Or ski box.

My wife said she would leave me if I ordered one of these, so I ordered two.
