The big difference between the 5200 and every other blender from Vitamix is the elongated container. Its ability to make creamy sauces without introducing too much air is mostly unmatched. The elongated shape makes it more narrow at the bottom as well, which lets you work with less volume and still get great results. I'm not ripping on any other Vitamix, but the model you'll see in the background in most chef kitchens is the 5200. ATK loves it, as do many others.

Also, that slow variable dial is super helpful so the blender doesn't splatter things everywhere. Most blenders have a more abrupt starts up.

Bought the 5200 off Amazon for about $325 total after taxes. I may return the 5200 for this one reason: the 5300 has a pulse feature, and I'd rather have that then the high variable ordeal the 5200 has. I can already see myself doing some pulsing.

One big difference is that Ascent and Venturist models are compatible with the food processor attachment. For me that was the main reason I went with Ascent. From what I've heard 5200/5300 is the superior blender if you don't care about Bluetooth, digital buttons, pre-programmed buttons or food processor attachments.

IMHO, Ascent/Venturist is for the gadget wonks and cooking enthusiasts and 5200/5300 are for the pros/chefs.

I see. If I want to get small attachments like the 20oz cup / small 8oz cups, will those work with the 5200/5300?

I just picked up a refurbished Explorian with the 64 oz. low profile container from the recent Amazon deals- it was $189. However, it is not super clear on the amazon product page just how long the warranty is. It is "amazon renewed" and not a Vitamix refurbished, from what I can tell.

I will say, it kicks major butt. We have spent the last two weekends drinking the smoothest, most amazing daiquiris that never would have been possible using my Ninja blender or some cheap Walmart model.

I am wondering if I should order this and send the refurb back so I can get the 7 year warranty. It looks like the Explorian and this are pretty similar specs as far as blending, what I cannot tell for sure is if there is a difference between the low profile 64 oz container that came with the refurb, and the container that comes with this one.

If you are sitting the fence and wondering if $300 is crazy for a blender, I can confirm it isn't. These will crush ice so smooth- drinks come out extra creamy and delicious.

Help me fellow SD users- what should I do?

For comparison: I purchased a "Certified Reconditioned Standard Programs" Vitamix at what was considered a great (FP) deal for $264.67 (incl shipping and tax) back in July 2015.

That unit has the taller 64oz jar...

In other words, if I needed a Vitamix (I don't - no issues with mine) I'd be all over this.
