I'd like to comment on the quality of the 2nd gen of Ridgid tool box. I have the 1st gen, DeWalt 1 and 2nd gen tough system and the Milwaukee pack out.

I found that the 2nd gen of Ridgid tool is a little thinner and the top cover used to have a 2nd layer inside to reinforce the case, it is now gone also.

Out of all the ones. I have, Milwaukee really has best overall in terms of size and quality. Ridgid 1st Gen offer decent value and quality... I have questions on 2nd gen

No. That was the 1.0 which has been discontinued. That was $100 around a year ago for the last time. This 2.0 set of 3 was $138 or $139 (if buy separately) the last few times on sale. I got it in store around Father's day, paid with 15% off gift cards, and received 11% rebate. So my set was close to $100.

I've had the 3 piece set for about a year, I rarely use the roller/dolly or wall mounts but love the fact that my tools stay clean and dust free. I find myself using this particular box as a temporary workbench when cutting 2x4's or similar materials with my Ridgid circular saw. No complaints from me, would buy again but doubt I'll never need to replace this.

The 1st gen's handle breaks and won't stay locked in place. Multiple coworkers have this problem. Not sure if they fixed it but rigid sucks

That's unfortunate if the Gen 2 is weaker than the Gen 1. But if they re in any way comparable - I too have the Gen 1 and for the sale price nothing came close to it quality wise. It easily beats similar lower priced offerings by Craftsman, Husky and Hart. I love it.

Dumb question. Anyone know how this compares to the fan-favorite Pelican? I'm wondering if the small Rigid case may work for my camera gear. Add some pick-and-pluck foam, and it's a much more affordable solution, PLUS the stacking AND the wall mount capabilities...

I own several Pelican cases and also have a couple of the Ridgid "Pro Gear Small Parts Organizer" (https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI...205440492) cases that are apparently no longer sold, but look comparable to the current model of "Power Tool Case". These are certainly better quality than the Harbor Freight "Apache" case line, and close quality to Pelican, and I'd say would be a good budget alternative if you need a rugged case and aren't going to be using it as a floatation device or vehicle ramp. But, if you need water tight and crush proof guarantees, stick with Pelican.

Surely someone has come up with a DIY alternative that includes 3D printed latches to use some off the shelf toolboxes and a granny grocery cart..!

Probably not, but possible. When it comes to these tool storage and transport systems, 98%* of the 3D printable thingiverse parts and accessories seem to be for Packout.

(*yes, that's a completely made up statistic, but probably pretty close)

I was wondering this too, as it's my primary reason for using Rigid products. According to the product description and Q&A section on the website they come with a "Limited Lifetime Warranty", which is different than the standard Rigid Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA), and these are serviced through a different manufacturer, Keter, via www.keter.com. Keter makes quality and high tech plastics, and is a pretty good brand, so I don't have an issue with it being warrantied through them instead of under the Rigid LSA.
Keter makes the best plastic shelves in the world. Costco used to carry them 10 years ago. Still use them today.

I have a couple of the Gen 1's and bought the Gen 2 off this deal. It is slightly lower quality than the Gen 1. That said, it's still better quality than anything else currently being sold, and I don't anticipate any issues, so I'll be buying another, since the deal is still on.

I don't have any concerns with the Ridgid boxes made by Keter but after actually opening and assembling my Keter "Darwin" shed, I can't recommend their plastic sheds. Every corner was damaged in shipping and needed reshaping and plastic welding just to be able to assemble it. The plastic is paper thin and one piece snapped during assembly. Despite having a perfectly level surface there were 1/2" gaps at each roof edge that needed silicone caulking to weatherproof. Keter did give me a full refund for the issues and let me keep the shed, so I they do seem to be a good and legit company.
