Tools I use hard and use often, I only buy quality...but for those that are only occasionally used and aren't going to have the screws put on them, the budget tools are a great option and have worked out well for me.

It all depends on use. I always tell people a low price doesn't necessarily mean a good value, just as a high price doesn't necessarily mean a poor value...and they should invest heavily in what they constantly use, and what they heavily rely on.

Back to $197. I too got the Wen for $30 on sale. Reg. $36ish It gets warm with extended use but for the price...
$369 at HD.The Wen is 1/2-by-18" belt

Agree with others regarding the Wen. It does get rather warm but at $30 purchase price, I can't complain. One of the few tools I don't mind replacing the brush when it dies. Extremely useful and no other decent alternative at this price point. The Ryobi fanboys came at me regarding the brushed cordless which is extremely underpowered and stalls with any reasonable amount of force.

was hoping this was the makita full sized belt sander with the flat top - you can turn it upside down without any clamps etc. and use as a bench sander for finish work - sits stable like rock on any flat surface- just as easy as you can lean on it hard to smooth out some exposed timbers... i lost mine in a belt sander race and now make due with the also powerful and very good porter cable.
