I own the white version of this, and have been very happy with it.

Depending on what temperature you set, it can either be a refrigerator or a freezer.

I think it is referring that it can withstand the garage heat during summer.

Garage ready usually means it can withstand the very cold temps below freezing and also hot temps. most regular ones if they get below freezing the freezer can shut off thinking its at the right temp inside when it is really warm and spoil your food. Happened to me

Auto defrost is a bad thing if you want your food to last the longest and actually taste fresh. Ofcourse depends on what you store and how but freezer burn will happen more often with an auto defrost. Once a month you have to defrost? Either your kids are leaving it open or opening it 20 times a day or the seal is bad. I have a deep freezer that I have only defrosted once in 6 years lol and it is not an auto defrost granted its for bulk food I store and only get in it like 4 times a year 😅

I don't think you know about Asian. All of my Asian friends and families that have 2nd may be third cold box because multi-generation and siblings live together so the kitchen slot for the cold box just isn't big enough. Especially with the advent of Costco.

I'm not Asian but I have two extra large capacity upright freezers and a refrigerator / freezer in the garage and of course a large refrigerator / freezer indoors. Between those, sales and my vacuum sealer I save a fortune on meats. They are all always full

Yeah, but unfortunately it's not easy to find upright freezers that aren't "frost-free."

I own a frost-free freezer, and agree fully that it doesn't keep things as long as it would if it weren't.

Chuckle. Is your mom new to the U.S.A.? We didn't even do extra stocking during COVID. All of my Asians never have the thought along your mom line. A few of us grew up going to the fresh market daily that they still prefer to do it that way. The rest of us stock the cold box because we just don't have the time to grocery shop daily. We have 2 big refrigerators and 1 big freezer and we live 6 so sometime we need just a hair more freezer capacity since we go about a month or so for storage need.
