Double check the statement date vs the payment date. Points are posted after the STATEMENT date

I Just want to be 100% sure on when points hit SW account. Card was approved yesterday and first statement will be Jan 18 (I assume this is correct since my card was approved Nov 29 and my chase acct shows the card and says statement date is 18th of each month).

Does this mean I can spend $3k this year and the points/bonus will hit my SW account right after that Jan 18 statement date? I want to be 100% sure that if I hit $3k spend before Jan 1 that I wont trigger the points hitting my account in 2023.
Thanks all

I am paranoid....so, if I were you, I'd spend $2,700 this year and not leave anything to chance.

Thats the path I plan to take, but also hoping for the peace of mind to know that if for some reason I accidentally hit the $3k mark, it wouldnt screw me over haha.

Appreciate the response though

Chase's eligibility rules for this card are (a) you can't currently have an open INDIVIDUAL (non-business) Southwest credit card ; and (b) you can't have gotten an initial sign on bonus posted to your account within the last 24 months.

Also, Chase has a general rule about 2/30 and 5/24 re: new cards. Such as if you have 5 new cards in the last 24 months you will likely be denied. and/or if you have 2 new credit card accounts opened in the last 30 days you will be denied (opened from any bank--not just Chase)

Many people get these cards every 2 years or so (by canceling and reapplying 32 days later) for the sign-on bonus points.

Chase has other products where it is 4 years (Sapphire) but Southwest has consistently been 2 years

I tried to cancel a Chase Sapphire card a few years ago. They told me I couldn't reopen it, so I ended up just keeping it.

Are you planning on doing both the personal and the business card to get the companion pass?

I would be careful to make sure it's the statement date that you're looking at and not the payment date. The statement date is the date that is used for when points get onto the account.

Yes. Statement date is gonna be too early so that's OK. Will focus on next statement. Gonna refer my wife for 20k points that 95. So hope to spend enough, get more points from any offers or try to refer one more person. Hopefully that's enough by end of 2024

My husband and I switch off every two years. So over the past two years he had the companion pass and then I plan on having it for the next two years.

Is the reason for your wife getting the business card only for the referral bonus? Typically getting the companion pass is more valuable - have you considered getting the business card for yourself? That would push you over the companion pass limit easily (after obtaining that sign-ups bonus).

Yes. The referral links had said good through 12/3 so that makes sense. Mine shows the same (although my previously generated link still showed 75,000,but said offer good through 12/3 in the same screen, so that would be risky). Newly generated referral links show 50,000 bonus for me too.

The Slickdeals link in the OP is still good for 75,000 bonus for several more days.

You can set an alert to email/text you when the balance hits a certain amount (say $2700).
