The 85mm with f/1.4 is designed to give you a very pleasing soft focus look for portraits.
The 100mm is a macro, which means it can focus closely, and also it has very flat focus, from corner to corner. You usually don't need sharpness in the edges (think of a portrait), but if you are photographing documents, for instance, you want that.
At 100mm, the macro is best outdoors, like if you photograph flowers or insects.
Either use a flash or find a way to put the subject's face in light. The camera captures light; that's the only thing it does. Photography is all about light. The camera "sees" light differently than our eyes do, and you have to learn about that and understand that if you want to get good at photography.
