For verizon phone, no need to keep the line open for 60 days,
1. you can activate the phone on new line
2. Pay off the phone via customer service or in cash at verizon corporate store.
corporate stores are inclined not to take payment in cash. they may be aware of what folks are doing . thus they try to make it hard for you.
if corporate store denies u. politely but firmly insist u spoke with rep of verizon. and they assured u this can be done in corporate store. if still denied, ask for manager. if still denied, go to another corporate store.
3. cancel the line within 3 days and no activation fee . Pro-rated charges for line for 1-2 days only. do not worry about what bill says.
4. Phone will be automatically unlocked in 60 days. No matter you use it on existing VZN line or keep it in drawer . even if u r no longer a customer , since u cancelled in three days. the phone will still unlock.
5. new customer, there will be a credit pull .most likely hard. existing customer. most likely a soft credit pull. remember this is post paid service.
6. if existing customer. consider: adding a line. then follow steps above, u can also simply port out the line u opened up. effectively cancelling the line. and not effect the other lines
share my experience from sd user.
I am not a current Verizon customer.
I ordered from Walmart Sunday (10/29) night.
Tax was $3 and change.
Phone arrived today (10/31 tuesday).
Activation was easy and basically completed by the phone itself with a new number.
I then set up an account on Verizon.com.
There already a bill in the system for a little more than $120 for activation, month of service and taxes.
Next bill estimate showed about $80.
After playing with the phone a few hours, I contacted Verizon by chat to cancel the account to make sure I am not charged an activation fee and so that Verizon only bills me the prorated use amount for 1 day.
Long story short, Verizon waived the activation fee, charged the full $36 for the phone and gave me a random credit that did not cover most of the monthly fee and taxes.
I think at first, they wanted a total of about $70 ($36 plus like $34 in fees).
I told the representative that made no sense given that I am cancelling the account within 1 day so the prorated cost should be about 3 or 4 dollars at most.
Chat representative gave me the run around but started applying what appeared to be random discounts.
At the end of the chat and subsequent follow up phone call, I was able to get the service fee reduced from $34 to $0.
Frankly, this was more trouble than it was worth.
Given that Verizon's unlock policy automatically unlocks the phone upon purchase (as opposed to activation), I expect this phone will unlock in 60 days

I am getting this error on Walmart's page after successfully signing to my Verizon account:
"We are unable to retrieve your account data. Please try again later"
Answer to your question is: No trouble signing in from Walmart to Verizon sign in.
The only "trouble" was when I refused the credit check option. The first time I went that route, it would not let me proceed.
Now, would OP please please answer my questions.....! TIA
Came back home and disconnected the line after chatting with customer service and asked them to remove the line immediately from my account with immediate effect. They did it. Next bill estimate showing $6 for that cancelled line. So final cost of the phone will be $42. Have to wait for 60 days now to have it unlocked
1) I should order as new line and pay it off online minus $1?
2) Once I received it (hopefully within 3 days) I need to immediately cancel the new line to avoid the $35 activation charge?
3) I can pull out my current SIM and pop into this phone and it should work?
Right now I have the phone in my Walmart cart going the UPGRADE route and my final cost is $71 because of the activation fee.
- Any way to remove the act. fee?
- And if I cancel the line (the upgrade) I will lose my current phone # and service? Right?
TIA
comparing a phone released in 2022 to one released 8 years ago.
mind boggling

Right, OP got it in store, but there are none in any Walmarts near me.
- So your advise is not to do this new line purchase online?
What about my UPGRADE line purchase for $71 final price?
- Any way to get the "activation fee" removed/waived?
TIA

---no i think u should. what i am saying is that the 35 downpayment is not nesscary (or may NOT even be possible) when u do on line

I went through another purchase using the NEW LINE option.
- skipped the port-in my current phone # and below is what's in my cart.
- my cheapest monthly offer is $40.
So in this scenario, what I need to do after the purchase is:
1) pay of the phone either online or Verizon store, $36.
2) chat or call to cancel the new line within 3 days of activation. Remove the monthly ($40 minus 1-3 days of service fee), and activation fee ($35).
3) take my current SIM and replace it in the A53 and now good to go with my old line.
- is this the process? Thanks.
