Nothing is free from Verizon. They will send your DPP to collection agencies when DPP fails to attach to your Verizon account. They are too lazy to fix and attach it to your account unless you call them. May take many phone calls as most reps are clueless. Basically they have to look up the credit application ID on the DPP to attach it to your account, and only the CORE (credit application team) reps can do this. They may also ask you to email them your driver's license, most recent utilities bill, credit card bill, etc. for identity verification. Happened to many people in the past, including those deals from Best Buy, where they thought they got free devices from Verizon and later received collection letters many months later.
u should post this in that thread....give everyone a Halloween scare...lol

Why am I declined, though I have a pretty good credit score (800+)? Around 5 years ago, I used verizon prepaid for a couple of months and then discontinued. Might this be the reason fo my application being declined while trying to purchase online from Walmart? It says "We weren't able to approve your application. To learn more, call Verizon at 8006520644".
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

This is where I stand so far...
Tried two different V stores they were not able to take the $36 pay down amount for the phone. Tried online chat agent as well.

Both store rep and chat rep said the only thing they can do is disconnect the line and I'll be billed amount owed (Phone + Prorated charges for the line) which is showing as $44.12 in my next bill estimate.
Morning when I activated, the next bill estimate was showing lot more than what it is showing now.

I'm not sure if the phone will be unlocked or not, may have to think about selling it as locked to Verizon.

$1.38x36 = $49.68 or $49.99 one time payment also $35 activation fee from verizon. And credit check is required at checkout screen for verizon service.

Walmart is $1x36 = $36

That's a good catch!

Same here. Used a different email address and a different pin and was approved quickly.

But then I folded on the deal. I think this one might be poking the bear.

This might not work for everyone but here goes. I called in and she says I have to wait till 11/25. I said - in that case I want to cancel the line. I asked her if I cancel will I owe $36 and she said yes that's the buy out (plus any usage). So I said cancel. She said let me see what I can do. 10 minutes later she "forced" the buyout.

She sent me a text and I entered the credit card info and voila buyout done. I will chat and cancel the line later today. I am expecting a prorated usage charge since I activated yesterday - but not expecting activation fees. We shall see…

So it sounds like if you cancel within 3 days after activation - and don't pay it off first you will still be only billed $36 plus usage. You don't necessarily have to pay off first before canceling. I am not for certain but it sounds like the contract is for $36. And it is a "hard" and real contract. I don't see how they can go and charge full price when you signed a $36 contract.

I have the grandfather New Verizon Unlimited plan. I can have up to 10 lines. I was not able to add lines using Walmart, so I upgraded the lines that I could. Cam out to 6 phones total. One problem was Walmart fraud will cancel orders if you purchase more than 2 with a single payment method. I had to use 3 payment methods for 6 phones.

One other thing, I did not unfreeze my credit and had no issues. Not looking forward to $210 in activation fees, but I can't complain about the price per phone!

Sounds like you nailed it bro, I'm going to do this once I get mine from FedEx. Seems like the employees at Verizon are getting trained to give customers a hard time if they want to pay off the phone.

Honestly it's not them. When I tried to chat without a human it actually gave me a screen that said the device could not be paid off before 11/25. So in that sense the phone rep really had to override the system. She was not lying and it took her a good 15 minutes to set it up for me to pay it off.
