When you upgrade phones on Boost, can you separately sign up for new service (porting in a number to a cheap basic Boost plan) and use the new phone for the new plan?

I'm a current Boost user and see the iphone available for $150. I don't need a new phone, but I would like to get it, give it to my spouse, and let her port her current number to a new Boost plan.

Yes, what you describe is possible. You can buy the upgrade but keep using your current phone. Your spouse can then sign up for a new plan using the "bring your own phone" option and then just use this new iPhone 12 as the phone.

1. Boost phones are locked in for 1 year of service
2. If you get a $40 or $60 dollar plan you cannot downgrade to a $25.00 or $15.00 plan

If you truly want an iPhone 12 and want to keep your number, your best deal is two fold. A. Buy a sim card and transfer your number to it. You can get a1/2 off account right now for $12.50. The plan is unlimited with 30gb of Premium plus 30gb of hot spot. Since this deal make you buy the phone and plan, do it and then cancel the plan the sim card comes with. Your original BOOST sim will work in the new iPhone12.
