I use this pencil for woodworking on almost a daily basis for about 2 years now and still haven't burned through a 10 pack refill yet, still have 3 sticks left in the pack. The thick graphite doesn't break easily and lasts quite a bit, but there are plenty of off brands on Amazon if you somehow are burning through the sticks too fast.
Well that makes me feel better - thanks for the info!
I guess it's not like I'm going to get this pencil and suddenly start drawing thousands of lines all over the place. The fear of running out is strong for some reason though. Must. Get. 100. Refills. Now.
If it can take any 2.8mm refill, that might be a different story.
Amazon has 120pk refills for $20, which almost puts it in line with a wooden carpenter pencil.
With that said, there are also cheaper versions of this pencil with refills included if you go looking. The main difference on this one is the holder it slides into.
A fracking pencil!!!!!

Seems like a better deal if you can use more than 1. 2 pack for $21 which would be $10.50 a pen.

Depending on the item you're marking maybe try washable chalk marker? Or little round stickers that you can use sharpie on?

The Pica 3030 is designed to make extremely fine pencil marks on various surfaces (wood, tile, metal, smooth concrete, etc) using very durable/hard graphite refills that are also very sharp. That said, it would not be ideal for marking prices on objects due to the very thin precise lines it creates. If you wanted inexpensive non-permanent way to mark objects, I'd recommend Scotch Blue Painters Tape or Scotch Masking Tape and a black medium tip Sharpie marker.
