In store only, Menards has 40 pound bags of Smokehouse brand BBQ pellets, 50/50 mix of Hickory & Oak for $7.99 .

100% Hickory and Oak hardwood, no flavored oils, binders, or bark.

Made in USA.

Smokehouse has been making BBQ wood products for over 55 years.

Like always .99 cents of the price is refunded to you in a Menards in-store rebate, that never expires.

They had 100s of these in stock, but everyone was buying a dozen bags, so you probably should not dally.

Menards also had 5 lb bags of Kingsford 100% Hickory pellets for $1.77 on clearance.

Not worth making a separate post, but if you are there, you might as well get a few bags too.

Only shows regular price as $9.99 with a sale price of $8.98 before the rebate. I was a little cautious about them based on that but did grab a bag today to try. One thing I did notice in all the bags I looked at is that the pellet length was much shorter than what I've seen typically.

Pit Boss pellets are the long ones, Bear Mountain and Kingsford are shorter like the Smokehouse (see pic)

All seems to burn the same, but like always, don't put the dust from the bottom of the bag into the pellet hopper. Pour it into your garden or charcoal grill.

Anyone here try these? I'm always leery of off brands, given my past experience with charcoal, and I still have a bunch of Costco pellets so there's no hurry. But I do love hickory for turkey and plan to cook 2-3 in the next month or two. I'll buy from Menard's sometimes but their BS rebate should either be ignored or posted with a big, fast asterisk (like they have to do) since it is for store credit, not a cash rebate like everywhere else, even though they always mention phony "after rebate" prices.

I've used them a lot over the years.

Just before the pandemic, Sams Club had them for $13 for 40lbs and we picked up 10 bags.

Not really an off-brand, they are they guys who make BearMountain and a few other regional brands.

40 Lbs for $8 is an amazing price on pellets. Usually they start out about double that.

Same brand pellets sold at Sam's, typically sells Comp mix of woods. This mix being only hickory and oak will be strong, good for beef.

its basically Home Depot but cheaper and better. They carry a wider range of things than places like Harbor Freight so another way to look at is its Harbor Freight but with more stuff and more name brands.

Cheaper than Kingsford charcoal per lb basis. Is there a way to use these in a way that's closer to charcoal in cooking characteristics?
